Chapter 42 An Unexpected Plea
Lira’s POV:
I glanced at the phone number and snapped, “Kael, how’d you even get my number?”

Then it clicked right away. As the Lycan King, getting my number was probably a piece of cake for him.
Kael’s voice, warm and smiling, came through the phone. “I told you, didn’t I? If I’m gonna keep you in my sight, I have to get your number one way or another.”
I stared at my phone screen, raised an eyebrow in irritation, and said coldly, “Fine, you got me.”
Kael’s tone softened, all fond. “Lira, did you get the clothes? You like them?”
I frowned as I watched more clothes get carried into the closet and asked, “Why’d you buy me so many clothes, anyway?”
“I want you thinking about me every single second,” he said, a little cocky in his voice.
I was so annoyed. Even ough I knew he couldn’t see me, I rolled my eyes at the air and snapped, “Kael, didn’t you promise to give me time to think?”
Kael spoke gently. “I didn’t forget. But that doesn’t mean I can’t get you gifts. I said I’d give you time–no pressure, I promise.”
After hearing that, I had nothing to say.
I had the right to think it over, and he had the right to chase me.
Especially since he was the most powerful guy in the whole Pack Alliance. Any real Omega would’ve listened to him without thinking twice.
He was being really patient with me–a “lowly Omega.”
I was zoning out when Kael kept talking. “Lira, don’t push me away. I know I can’t rush you, but I want you to remember me every day.
“I wanna ease my way into your life, little by little. No matter how it turns out, I’ll wait—until the day you say yes to being my mate.”
My heart fluttered a little. I’d be lying if I said it didn’t touch me. But the pain from Brookstone Pack, and what happened to my mom–they made me pull back from love without even thinking.
My mom and dad were rare fated mates, but my dad still cheated on her.
Love was probably fragile from the start. Besides, there was my real identity and so many secrets between Kael and me…
I couldn’t wrap my head around it, so I decided to drop it.
After that, I threw myself even harder into my work: growing Four Seasons Group, making medicine, all of

I just wanted to keep myself busy–busy enough that Kael couldn’t mess with my head anymore…
One afternoon, right after school, I walked up to the gate. A lady and a strong high–level werewolf guy hurried straight over to me.
Victoria smelled him and knew he was a Gamma–which meant he had some clout.
I looked closer and realized the lady was Virginia’s mom.
She reached me, all excited, and said, “Ms. Krom, do you remember me? I’m Virginia’s mom. You saved our Virginia the other day.”
I nodded at her. “Hi, Mrs. Wilson. I remember you. How’s Virginia doing these days?”
“She’s doing so much better! I’m here for two things: first, to thank you face to face. Second, to beg you to save Virginia!
“The doctors said only you can help her.” She squeezed my hand tight, her voice shaking.
“Please, I’ll pay whatever it costs. Just tell me you’ll help her. I know you can–we asked around. You’re the one who fixed Elder Cox from the Silverwhip Pack. You’re that healer everyone’s talking about in the upper circles!”
