Chapter 57 Clarification and Rage

Lira’s POV:

I didn’t even get a word out before some guy stepped up and shoved me hard.

“How can you be this shameless? You messed up and won’t even say sorry–and you made Barbara cry!”

The other kids whispered around us, all ganging up on me.

When Barbara heard them talking, she rushed to say, “Lira, don’t get mad. Just say you and Michael aren’t a thing, and I’ll believe you. I’ll even stick up for you and tell everyone you didn’t hit on him.”

I looked at Barbara–crying her eyes out, putting on such a show. A sneer tugged at my lips. “You sure you and Michael are bonded as chosen mates?”

Barbara didn’t see that question coming. It totally gave her away–laid bare what was really going on between her and Michael, right then and there.

Her eyes started darting around, guilty, and her face went all weird.

After a second, she lied her way out of it. “Mr. Brewer already picked me to marry Michael. So even if we’re not bonded yet, I’m still his mate.

“And you really think Michael would dump me for an Omega like you?”

I stared her down, laughing coldly. “Oh yeah? If you’re that sure, why are you here bothering me?

“You really think everyone’s into Michael–the guy you’re so crazy about?

“You made up all this stupid drama just from one photo. You should be a writer.

“Or an actress. You’re really good at faking it.”

Then I turned to the crowd watching. “Everyone scatter. Sorry to let you down, but I didn’t do anything. No show for you guys.”

With that, I grabbed Laura and Virginia and walked off.

Third–Person Perspective:

That afternoon, on the school forum, Michael posted an official explanation about the photo.

He said someone in his family was sick, so he asked Lira to come heal them. The photo? Just him dropping her off after she finished.

He also made it clear–he and Barbara were nothing. His family wouldn’t stick their noses in and choose his mate for him.

As soon as Michael’s explanation went up, the forum went nuts.

[Oh, so Lira was just invited to heal his family?]

[Right! And Michael said he has nothing going on with Barbara.]

[Ouch! Barbara got so embarrassed. She acted like she was his mate, but she’s not even close.]

[Who knew Lira’s such a good healer, even though she’s just an Omega? The Brewer family actually asked her to treat them.]

[Yeah, maybe she’s part of the healing wolf clan. That’s why she’s low–rank but has such good medical skills. Guess we should cut her some respect from now on.]

Lira’s POV:

Laura stared at the forum comments, yanking my arm excitedly. “Lira! The forum’s blowing up! You’re so cool–you totally called it! How’d you know Michael would fix this?”

I flipped through my book, totally casual. “It’s the truth. He started this mess–why would I clean it up for him?”

Michael was sharp. He had to know I was more than I seemed. Otherwise, he never would’ve talked to me first, or given me a ride back.

He helped me out because he wanted to use me later.

But I didn’t need to explain all that messy stuff to Laura…

Laura nodded like she got it. “Oh right! You just saved his family–he had to stand up for you. Ugh, Lira, how’re you so good at everything? Even us high–rank werewolves feel stupid next to you.”

I smiled softly and changed the subject to get her mind off it.

Thanks to Michael’s explanation, the forum totally flipped. People went from hating me and looking down on me to singing my praises.

Someone even posted a video of Barbara and me arguing in the cafeteria. After that, Barbara’s perfect little image went down the drain.

I didn’t care one bit. I just laid low at school, pretending to be just another Omega student…

Third–Person Perspective:

At the Price Manor, home of the Cloudburst Pack’s Alpha, a pink princess bedroom lay completely trashed. A few Omega servants stood at the door, shaking like leaves, too scared to go inside.

On the bed, Barbara had a crazy look on her face, tearing a pillow to pieces. She mumbled over and over, “Bitch! Bitch! Lira, you lowly Omega! It’s all your fault! If not for you, Michael would never treat me this way! I’ll get you back for this!”

She’d planned to use the gossip to run Lira out of school. Even better–make the other students so mad they’d sign a petition to boot Lira from the Silverwhip Pack.
