Chapter 74 The Counterattack and the Crisis

Lira’s POV:

Barbara’s face froze for a sec, but then it turned creepy again. “Who gives a crap? As long as you’re gone, Michael will come back to me–1 know it.

“Don’t sweat it–I won’t shift into a wolf and tear you to pieces. I’ll torture you slowly, with other junk.”

After she said that, she pulled out a spray bottle. “Know what this is?

“I put a little something in your wine today, but that was just a setup. It won’t do jack on its own. But spraying this will kick–start the drug in your system. You’ll see what it does in a minute.

Then she sprayed me with it–over and over again.

Even if I hadn’t studied all that medicine with Enid, my body got way tougher after Victoria woke up. Regular cuts and poisons were child’s play for me.

“You sure this stuff works on me?” I scoffed.

“Hell yeah it does.” Barbara lifted her brow, all cocky and sure–nothing like her usual goody–two–shoes

act.

“I know you’re good at medicine, Lira. So I dropped a ton of cash to get this from a witch–they’re born to make poison, y’know? How’s that? Shocked?

“You act like you’re the prettiest thing around. What do you think–if you lose this face, will Michael even look at a lowly Omega like you?”

Watching her ugly mug, I didn’t have the patience to play her little game anymore.

My head started to throb, like it was swelling up. My vision got fuzzy. I cursed under my breath.

Dammit! I let my guard slip this time!

I never thought Barbara would be this nuts–selling out the werewolf clan to team up with a witch, just to get back at me!

Poisons made by witches were our kryptonite, as werewolves.

Even with my strong body, I was starting to feel like crap.

Barbara turned to the guys in black and snapped coldly, “Let’s move.”

I looked at the guys walking toward me and sneered. “You sure these goons can take me down?”

Right after I said that, I snapped the rope tied around my hands.

Barbara pointed at me, stunned. “You! When did you get out of that?!”

“Figure it out,” I sneered. Then I used Victoria’s power and lunged at the big guys next to me!

I moved super fast. In no time, all of them were on the ground–they didn’t even get to fully shift into wolves.

Watching the guys lying everywhere, I walked step by step toward Barbara, who was frozen stiff in shock.

Barbara stared at me, petrified. “You! Your strength and speed–you’re not an Omega at all!

“Who are you, really? What do you want?” She backed up as she talked.

A sneer tugged at my lips. “You’ll find out soon enough.”

Then I forced a pill down her throat.

Barbara swallowed it without thinking, panicking. She tried to dig it out with her fingers right away.

But she couldn’t get a thing out. She covered her mouth, stared at me shaking, and stammered, “Wh… what did you give me?”

I grinned mischievously. “You love these little tricks so much–why don’t you take a turn? Promise it’ll stick with you forever.”

“You…” Barbara’s face twisted up in anger. She bared her wolf eyes and glared at me, but she didn’t finish her sentence before she toppled backward.

I looked down at her and sneered. “How’s that? Feel nice?”

Barbara curled up on the floor, thrashing around nonstop. She begged for mercy, in so much pain. “Lira, let me go! I’ll never bother you again, I swear!”

I stared at her, cold as ice, forcing back the ache in my body.

After everything that went down in the Brookstone Pack–my family stabbing me in the back, all the hell I went through–I didn’t have that stupid kindness anymore.

Enid taught me: as the future Alpha who’d guard the Hidmoon Pack, I had to stay calm, think straight, and be strong. I couldn’t go soft, especially on enemies.

I ignored Barbara, pulled the memory card out of the camera, and headed for the door.

The drug in my system was almost too strong to fight off. I felt dizzy all over.

I had purification water in my bag–it could flush the drug out of my blood–but these guys tossed it away for no reason.

Now I had to try my hardest to get Lily and Victoria to work together, using their power to keep my sickness in check.

I wanted to grab the tools from my medical bag to fix myself up, but my hands were shaking so bad I couldn’t do a thing. I just had to grit my teeth and tough it out.

To stay awake, I pulled out a scalpel and sliced my arm. The pain jolted me awake a little.
