apter 8 Contempt and Doubt
Lira’s POV:
Thanks to Victoria, my hearing was sharp. I caught every soft word the butler said to Glenn.
I kept my face neutral. I went on setting out my tools, planning to just wait and see.
“You…” Glenn began, but footsteps at the door cut him off.

I looked over. The first to walk in was a young man with an edgy, modern look. He wasn’t that young, but he took care of himself. The arrogance around him was so thick even Lily could feel it. He had to be a Beta.
That must be “Mr. Obrien“.
Behind him was another young man. He wore gold–rimmed glasses and carried a silver medical case. He looked calm, composed. But there was a quiet superiority about him.
Lily couldn’t catch his scent, but Victoria could. Pure–blood. High rank.
He looked familiar. I searched my memory and it clicked. I’d seen his picture in an article not long ago.
Lonnie Chandler. A famous neurologist from the Thunder Pack. He specialized in nerve damage caused by wolf spirit trauma.
“Joshua. What is this?” Glenn’s tone held a clear note of displeasure.
“Ms. Krom, this is my Luna’s younger brother, Joshua Obrien,” he explained to me first.
Then, he said to the newcomer, “Joshua, this is Ms. Krom.”
“Glenn! This is Dr. Lonnie Chandler! An authority I personally invited from the Thunder Pack!” Joshua talked right over me, presenting the man beside him with pride.
Lonnie gave the slightest nod. When his eyes passed over me, they were full of a clear, dismissive contempt. Like I was a piece of furniture.
Joshua kept boasting. “He’s also the private physician for the Thorne family. You know, the Lycan King’s family.
“I called in a lot of favors to get him here.”
A thought jumped into my head.
The Thorne family, the royal bloodline of the Lycan King–was there any connection to Kael?
Was he from the Thorne family?
Or… was Kael himself the Lycan King?
My own guess startled me. Glenn’s voice brought me back.

Finishet
“Ms. Krom, I must apologize…” he started.
“Glenn, who exactly did you invite?” Joshua cut him off, his voice dripping with mockery. “Have you lost your mind? Letting some random person treat Luna?”
This guy has no manners. He doesn’t even respect an Alpha. Lily complained in my head.
He’ll regret that pride. Victoria added, her voice cool and disdainful.
