Chapter 85 No Second Chances

Lira’s POV:

Patricia did not expect me to say no so quickly.

For a second, she lost her cool, popped out her wolf eyes, and tried to scare me. But when she saw Edward was still there, she quickly calmed down and turned to him.

Edward ignored her. She turned back to me, much more polite this time.

“Lira, please. Help me save Dale. I know I was wrong–I should not have doubted you. Name any price, and I will pay it.”

“Sorry. I am not good enough.” I just said it flatly.

Krista saw that and bared her fangs, yelling at me, “You bitch! My mom is begging you, and you are being a jerk! Do not be ungrateful–you will treat him, whether you want to or not!”

“Krista, shut up!”

“Shut your mouth!”

Before I could say anything, Patricia and Manuel both yelled at her to stop.

Manuel walked up to me. “I am sorry–she does not know how to talk. Please do not take it personally.

“And about my dad… Ms. Krom, please think about it again. Name any price–we will do whatever it takes to wake him up.”

I did not hesitate at all. “No need. I am sure Krista can find someone to save him.”

I did not even look at them. I turned to Edward and said, “Mr. Golder, since everything is good, I will go

rest now.”

With that, I turned around and walked out.

Third–Person Perspective:

After Lira left, the living room went dead quiet.

Edward sat on the main couch, sighed, and said, “Figure out how to save Dale on your own. I cannot help

you anymore.

“Since everyone is here, I have a few things to say. Lance and Dale passed out because they were poisoned. You all know who did it. I am not saying it, but that does not mean I do not know.”

When Cheryl heard that, her face turned white as a sheet. She squeezed her cup so tight her knuckles went white.

Edward kept going. “If you are going to stoop this low for the alpha heir spot, let me tell you now–it is a waste of time.

“I already made a will. If the person I picked has any accidents, I will ask the Lycan King to pick the Fragrance Pack’s next alpha personally. And all my money will go to charity.

“So cut the dirty tricks–they are useless.”

Edward’s words shocked everyone.

They all stared at him, stunned. They never thought he would do something like that.

After hearing that, Cheryl deflated like a balloon. She slouched on the couch, spaced out.

Then Patricia dropped to her knees in front of Edward, crying her eyes out. “Please. I will do whatever you say about the alpha spot and the money. But Dale is still lying in there–please, tell Lira to save him!”

She could not even talk straight; she was crying so hard.

Edward looked at her sadly, patted her shoulder, and said, “Tell Krista to apologize to Lira. If she accepts it, she will save Dale. If not, no one can help.”

With that, he ignored everyone else and stood up, heading upstairs.

Lira’s POV:

If I wanted to hear what was going on with the Golder family, I could just focus my ears and use Victoria’s strong energy to listen in. But I did not.

It was the least I could do to respect Edward.

I lay on the guest room couch, holding Sun, the little fox, in my arms.

“Meanie! You said you would take me out to play–you lied!” Sun said, sounding upset.

I typed out an email while patting his fur to calm him down. “I told you to stay home, but you insisted on coming to the Fragrance Pack. I have not even rested since I got here–how am I supposed to take you

out?”

Sun huffed, spread out his legs, and lay down next to me. “Then do not make me stay with that stupid. mosquito. I want to play next to you.”

I nodded. “Fine. But do not run off. If you get lost and I fly back home, I will not come looking for you.”

“Hmph! Do you think I am a regular fox in this space? I am way too strong and smart to get lost!” He said it all cocky, then turned away to play on his own.

I smiled at his lively little figure. But just then, my phone rang.

It was an unknown number. I frowned and answered it. “Hello? Who is this?”
