Thalia was almost out of the villa when the shouting from behind stopped her in her tracks. She turned, her face going pale as she saw what had happened.

The hospital room smelled strongly of disinfectant, the air heavy with tension.

After a check-up and treatment, it was confirmed that Shyla’s head injury wasn’t severe, just a mild concussion.

She lay there now, weak and unconscious.

The door opened, and Miya rushed in, still wearing a mask, though her anxious expression couldn’t be hidden. “Dad, is Mom okay?”

Trenton’s face was stone cold. “She’s fine. But why are you wearing a mask? Are you sick?”

Miya glanced at Thalia before shaking her head. “I’m just a little under the weather.”

That brief glance didn’t escape Trenton’s notice.

“Take the mask off,” he ordered, his tone firm.

Miya hesitated. “No, I really have a cold. Mom’s already so weak. I don’t want to risk giving it to her.”

“Take it off, now.” Trenton’s expression darkened even further.

Reluctantly, Miya pulled the mask away.

Her face was still a bit swollen, but much improved from this morning. It was clear she had been hit.

Trenton shot a furious glare at Thalia. “Did you do this?”

“Yeah,” Thalia said, unflinchingly. “Is it too uneven? Want me to even it out on the other side?”

“You!” Trenton’s anger flared, but he held himself back, looking at Shyla’s unconscious form. He forced himself to stay calm.

Miya quickly intervened, her voice soft but steady. “Dad, please don’t be mad. It’s my fault. I upset Lia, and I deserved it. She hit me to blow off some steam. It’s fine. I’m not upset.”

Seeing her so humble and apologetic, Trenton felt a lump in his throat, his heart heavy with guilt.

The Colemans had already wronged Miya’s biological family, but now he couldn’t even control his own daughter, letting her repeatedly bully Miya.

Trenton slumped slightly, the weight of exhaustion and sadness evident in his posture.

Miya’s eyes flickered with a spark of determination before she said again, “Dad, how about you go home for now? I’ll stay here with Mom, and I’ll let you know as soon as she wakes up.”

“No need, Trenton waved her off. “I’ll stay here with her.”

Miya didn’t argue further, instead sitting on the other side, watching over Shyla.

Trenton sighed, pointing toward Thalia. “It’s because of her.”

Darion’s brows furrowed, but instead of continuing with his father’s line of thought, he turned to Miya. “Miya, what did you say to Trenton and Shyla this time?”
