Chapter 108
Miya, still facing away from Shyla, caught the words and couldn’t resist throwing a smug glance at Thalia.
Thalia’s fists clenched at her sides, her face twisting with frustration. But she held herself back, fully aware that Miya was doing it on purpose.
When Thalia didn’t snap, Miya felt a brief flicker of disappointment, thinking, ‘Wow, Lia’s really learned how to keep her
cool now
After Miya left the room. Thalia turned her attention to Shyla. “So you’re just going to protect her like this? Is she your real daughter?”
Shyla’s expression tightened. “That’s nonsense, Thalia. You’re the only daughter I have. You don’t even act like my daughter anymore. You’re not kind or understanding. Miya’s been with us for years now, and I don’t understand why you can’t just get along with her.”
“You’ve always had me. You’ve spoiled me and given me whatever I wanted. But suddenly, out of nowhere, someone’s here to take all of that away. Why should I just accept it? When you adopted her, why didn’t you ask me how I felt about it?”
Thalia’s face remained stone-cold as she looked at Shyla. “Did you really need another daughter? Why would you adopt someone older than me?”
It was the one thing that had always puzzled her.
Miya’s arrival had turned everything upside down. The love her parents once showered on her vanished. Her toys were taken, and suddenly she became the one labeled as spoiled and selfish.
But those things had always been hers in the first place. Miya had taken what belonged to her, yet Thalia couldn’t even be mad. She couldn’t make a scene or act out.
Shyla let out a heavy sigh at Thalia’s words. She closed her eyes for a moment, gathering her thoughts before speaking. “Your father and I are getting older, and you don’t have any siblings.
‘I thought maybe bringing someone in to help look after you would be good. When we’re gone, you two could keep each other company and take care of one another. I never imagined you’d be so against it.”
Thalia scoffed, her lips curling into a bitter smile. “Really, Mom? You expect me to believe that? I’ll grow up, get married, and have kids. I won’t end up alone. Why would I need someone to look after me?”
Shyla fell silent, but Thalia instantly sensed something was off.
The reasoning didn’t add up. And in that moment, Thalia realized there was more to Miya’s adoption than she had been
told.
It was a truth that had only just hit her, and a flash of realization crossed her face.
But before she could think too much about it, the door opened, and Trenton walked in, followed by a sharply dressed man holding a stack of documents. Miya trailed behind them.
Thalia’s stomach sank, and her face darkened. The worst thing she had feared was happening right in front of her
“Trenton, what is this?” Shyla asked, her confusion evident as she took in the scene.
Trenton, calm as ever, spoke without hesitation. “I’ve made up my mind. I’m transferring 5% of the Coleman Group shares to Miya. She’s been with us for years, and she’s had a tough time. This is my way of making it right. What do you think?”
