Thalia gripped the seatbelt tightly, her voice hoarse as she asked, “If you didn’t know, then why didn’t you question me when I told you about this before?”
“It doesn’t matter,” Darion said, his hand reaching over to hold hers, his eyes fixed on her with an intensity she couldn’t ignore. “It’s all in the past now. It doesn’t matter anymore.”
Thalia’s eyes, wide and filled with unshed tears, searched his face. “How can it not matter? Miya wants to take everything from me. She even wants to take credit for saving you. Darion, this is important.”
Darion frowned, his expression darkening. “Even if she saved me, my feelings for you haven’t changed.”
He thought to himself, ‘Does she really think I’m with her just because of a favor? What does she think I am?’
Thalia’s voice broke as she pulled her hand away. “I saved you, Darion,” she insisted, her eyes flashing with anger. “Listen to me. I’m the one who saved you, not her. She’s lying and trying to steal what’s mine!”
Her words were heated, and the tears in her eyes shimmered, making it hard for anyone to watch without feeling a pang in their chest.
“Okay, it was you.” Darion said, his voice softening, trying to ease her distress. “I believe you. I won’t look into it anymore.”
But Thalia couldn’t look at him. Instead, she turned her gaze out to the dark night, the absurdity of it all sinking in.
Her father was planning to give shares of the Coleman Group to an adopted daughter, and this woman was claiming to be the one who saved Darion.
It felt like a nightmare, yet everything around her confirmed it was real.
She shoved open the car door and stepped out, not bothering to glance back as she walked away.
Darion stayed in the car, not looking at her. After a long pause, he pulled out his phone and dialed Ryan. “I need you to look into something for me.”
The next day, Thalia walked into the hospital with heavy dark circles under her eyes.
Shyla was awake, and Miya had arrived early, feeding her breakfast.
Trenton wasn’t there, and the room had a calm, peaceful atmosphere.
But the moment Thalia stepped in, the peace was broken. She walked in, said nothing, and simply sat down in a chair.
Shyla, her forehead wrapped in bandages, furrowed her brows. “Thalia, what’s going on?”
Thalia’s voice was cold as she replied, “Just wanted to see you.”
Shyla sighed, her voice softening. “I thought you wouldn’t come.”
Thalia’s lips pressed into a tight line. She didn’t respond, but her gaze, sharp as ever, was fixed on Miya.
After a night of rest, Miya’s swollen face had completely returned to normal.

She gently wiped Shyla’s mouth with a tissue, then carefully put the dishes away.
“Mom, would you like to lie down for a bit?” she asked.
Shyla gave her a warm, loving look. “No, I just ate. I don’t want to lie down right now. I’ll just sit for a while
Miya nodded understandingly. “Okay, that’s fine.”
