Chapter 118
Miya gave a faint, sad smile. “Crazy, right? Darion, all I did was save someone back then. If I had an agenda, I wouldn’t have stayed silent for over eight years. I’m taking Keith home now. You can keep working.”
She turned and left the office without another word.
Darion’s fingers tightened around the pen, his gaze dark and unreadable. His expression gave nothing away, leaving Ryan unsure of what was going on in his mind.
Ryan hesitated, watching Darion carefully before asking, “Mr. Blackburn, should we keep investigating?”
Darion didn’t look up as he responded, “Look into where Thalia was when the earthquake happened.”
Ryan nodded. “Got it.”
Thalia and Wendy met for lunch at a barbecue restaurant. The rich aroma of grilled meat filled the air, and the sizzling sound from the grill made everything feel a little brighter.
Wendy noticed Thalia’s tired eyes and furrowed her brow. “Thalia, did you not sleep well last night?”
Thalia looked exhausted, her eyes lacking their usual spark.
“How do I stop my parents from giving Miya the shares of the Coleman Group?” Thalia asked, her voice tinged with frustration.
“What?!” Wendy exclaimed, stunned. “Are your parents out of their minds? Giving the company to an adopted daughter? What kind of spell did that bitch put on them? It’s insane!”
Thalia lifted her gaze, meeting Wendy’s eyes. “You think it’s crazy too, don’t you?”
“Of course!” Wendy slammed her hand on the table, furious. “If my parents did that, I’d be fighting them all the way.”
Thalia rested her chin in her hand, deep in thought. “They’re always so patient with Miya, always showering her with attention, caring for her, even giving her the company.
“It’s like they’re trying to make up for something. You think my parents could have… I don’t know, killed Miya’s parents?”
The thought hit her like a lightning bolt, and oddly enough, it made a twisted kind of sense.
How else could she explain Trenton and Shyla’s obvious favoritism toward Miya?
For years, she hadn’t even considered this possibility, but now, when she really thought about it, it started to fit.
Wendy blinked in surprise, her jaw slightly dropped. “Wait, are you saying they’re trying to make up for something from the past? Even if it means hurting you?”
Thalia threw her hands up in frustration. “Honestly, it’s the only thing that makes sense to me.”
Wendy’s eyes lit up with excitement. “Well, I’m all in for this. I’ve always wondered about the secrets rich families are hiding. What do you say I dig around a bit?”
Thalia gave a mock-serious look. “Just don’t make things worse.”

“Don’t worry I’ve got it covered. Wendy said with a grin, giving her a thumbs up.
The two of them wrapped up their meal and headed home, chatting and laughing.
When Thalia stepped off the elevator, she froze. There was Darion, standing at her door.

He was casually leaning against the wall, jacket draped over his arm, the collar of his shirt slightly rumpled. His eyes were lowered as he spoke into his phone, his face a mask of indifference.
