Clinton didn’t really know the local market, so he pulled out his phone to jot down the names and said, “Thanks for the recommendations. I’ll check with a realtor later.”
Thalia’s lips twitched slightly. The whole drive, Clinton kept making conversation with her.
He asked about the best places to eat, things to do, and local spots worth checking out.
He acted like a friend and kept the right distance, never pushing too hard.
Thalia chatted back casually, answering here and there.
The car pulled up to the restaurant soon enough.
Thalia and Clinton ran into Miya at the entrance. Miya looked apologetic and turned to Clinton.
“Mr. Howard, I just got a call,” she said. “My son isn’t feeling well and I need to go home to check on him. I can’t stay for dinner tonight. I’m really sorry. I’ll take you out another time to make up for it.”
Clinton shook his head. “Family comes first,” he said. “Go home and take care of him.”
“Thank you,” Miya said. She nodded and turned to leave.
Thalia didn’t think much of it and walked into the private dining room. Her coworkers had already
arrived.
The team dinner started, and the drinks started flowing. After a few rounds, everyone had at least a little alcohol in their system.
Halfway through the meal, Thalia got up and headed to the restroom. Her figure disappeared around the corner, but two men at the end of the hallway had their eyes on her
The men exchanged glances and slipped into the private room next door.
When Thalia came back, she found her wine glass filled to the brim.
Clinton stood beside her and smiled. “Let me toast to you,” he said. “You spent the whole ride telling me about the local scene and helped me get familiar with the area. I really appreciate it.”
He raised his glass and downed the entire drink in one go.
The other coworkers turned to look at Thalia.
Someone called out, “Mr. Howard is so easygoing. Working with him is going to be great, Thalia. You better not let the team down.”
The teasing voices rose around her and put her on the spot. She had no choice but to drink.
Wesley stood nearby, watching the scene unfold. He said, “She’s voicing the female lead. She can’t drink too much, or her voice will be shot. Are you going to find me a replacement voice actress if that happens?”
Clinton froze for a moment, then said, “Sorry, I got too excited and forgot about that. Don’t drink this one.

I’ll drink it for you.”
He picked up the glass and downed it.
Someone clapped nearby and said, “Mr. Howard can really hold his liquor!”
Thalia watched the scene, and her brow furrowed slightly.
Clinton finished drinking, and his body started swaying. He sat down in his chair, and his face flushed red. His body unconsciously leaned toward Thalia.
Clinton mumbled, “I actually can’t hold my liquor that well. I drank too much.” His arm draped over the back of Thalia’s chair.
People started getting up from the table. One person said, “I’m going to the restroom.”
“Hey, wait up. I need to go too.”
“I’m going to get some air. I’ll be back in a bit to keep drinking.”
The private room emptied out quickly, and only a few people remained.
Clinton pressed his temple and said, “Can you help me to the next room so I can rest? My head is killing
me.”
He paused, then added, “I want to talk to you about Miya.”
