Chapter 166
Thalia froze. “Why? Did you get in trouble or something?”
Clinton said, “I don’t know. I got an email this morning.”
He’d already packed up his things, holding a big cardboard box, looking conflicted.
Thalia lowered her gaze, deep in thought, her fingers clenched tightly.
This is Darion’s doing, Thalia thought.
He hadn’t interfered with her work, but he had interfered with someone else’s job.
‘Isn’t he just wonderful?’ Thalia thought, her tone dripping with sarcasm.
Thalia pulled out her phone and dialed Darion’s number.
After three rings, he picked up, his deep, cheerful voice coming through. “Thalia.”
“Was it you who got our department manager fired?” Thalia demanded, not beating around the bush.
Darion’s tone was calm. “Thalia, are you really going to question me over another man?”
Even over the phone, she could pick up on the dangerous edge in his voice.
Thalia held back her temper. “Don’t you think you’re going too far? He didn’t do anything wrong.”
Darion let out a low, dangerous laugh. “You had dinner together, and he was obviously trying to get close to you. Isn’t that enough? Thalia, I’m not the generous type. Any guy who tries to get near you, I want to destroy them.”
Thalia sucked in a sharp breath and hung up on him.
‘He’s out of his mind, Thalia thought.
She was sure now. Clinton got fired because of her.
Thalia thought for a moment, then dialed Helen Blackburn’s number.
“Hey, Thalia, what’s going on?” Helen asked.
“Mom, I need you to help me get a friend a job,” Thalia said, getting straight to the point.
Helen sounded puzzled. “Oh? What friend? What does he do?”
Thalia told her about Clinton, and said he got fired because Darion totally lost it over her.
Helen was silent for a moment before saying, “Thalia, since Darion has already made up his mind, I really can’t interfere
“Alright.” Thalia said, her tone softening. “I’m planning to take Miya out for dinner tonight. I’ll invite Darion too.”
“Okay, I’ll handle it,” Helen replied.
Helen’s tone turned cold. “Thalia, you’re really crossing the line by threatening me like this!”

Thalia let out a helpless sigh Mom, what else am I supposed to do? Your son’s totally lost it. Aren’t you going to help clean up his mess?
Helen was speechless.
This is such a mess! Helen thought
She angrily hung up the phone.
Thalia returned to the office and told Clinton, “Someone’s going to reach out to you soon, so just hang tight and don’t leave yet.”
Clinton stared at her, shocked. “What did you do?”
He paused, then suddenly furrowed his brow at her. “Hold on. Was I fired because of you?”
Thalia’s eyes flickered with guilt, feeling a bit uneasy.
Clinton was speechless. He sighed and said, “Thalia, I swear, I never had any funny business going on.”
I’m sorry, Thalia said.
She lowered her head, genuinely apologetic.
Clinton felt like he’d just gotten dragged into a mess for no reason.
