Chapter 229

Sebastian pushed up his glasses and asked calmly. “Isn’t it a bit much not to let them come up?”

Wendy shot back, “If we let them up, we’ll be the ones in a bad spot.”

Sebastian burst out laughing.

But he still said, “I haven’t interacted much with Mr. Blackburn, but from what I’ve seen, he’s relentless. He never lets anything go easily.”

As he spoke, he gave Thalia a knowing look.

Thalia’s brows furrowed, and she couldn’t help but feel irritated.

That’s just how Darion is.

If they didn’t let him up today, he’d definitely figure out a way to get up here, no matter what.

Thalia let out a silent sigh.

“Let’s just eat first,” Thalia said. “We’ll handle whatever comes at us, one step at a time.”

Sebastian didn’t say anything else.

When it came to her business, he always stayed out of it, keeping just the right amount of distance.

Thalia took a mouthful of hotpot meat, and a burst of satisfaction washed over her.

She downed a bottle of beer, feeling warmth spread through her whole body.

But the calm didn’t last for long.

This time, it was her apartment door that got knocked on.

“Police, we’re here on official business!”

A voice called out from the hallway.

Everyone froze.

Wendy’s eyes went wide in disbelief. “The police? Why are the police here?”

Thalia was just as confused. She got up and walked over to open the door.

Two police officers stood there, their faces serious.

“We received a report that people are gambling here. We’re going to need to search the place,” one of the officers said. flashing his badge and stepping right inside.

Thalia felt a headache coming on. “We’re not gambling”

The officers scanned the place, and all they saw were three people enjoying their hamburger meal.

There wasn’t even a poker table in sight, let alone any signs of gambling.

Just then. Jason Campbell’s voice came from the doorway. “Oh, my bad! I got the address wrong. It’s totally my fault. Sorry. officers, really sorry about this!”

He apologized profusely, looking genuinely embarrassed, and quickly rattled off a different address.

The officers looked annoyed. “This time, you’re coming with us. If it’s wrong again, you’re coming down to the station.”

“Yes, yes, I’ll go with you,” Jason said, nodding eagerly.

He flashed a sheepish grin at Thalia. “Thalia, I heard you moved into a new place, so I brought you a little something. Don’t mind if it’s nothing special. I’ll get out of your hair now. Let’s have dinner together some other time!”

With that, he followed the officers out.

And right then, Darion walked in, bold as brass.

‘Holy crap…
