Chapter 237
Darion’s veins bulged at his temples as he gripped Thalia’s wrist. Seeing the mocking smile on her face, he nodded. “You’d really go this far for him?”
She ignored all his advice and stubbornly insisted on getting involved with Sebastian.
Now, for Matthew, she was even willing to completely disregard her own well-being.
But when it came to him, she was nothing but cold and distant.
She used to claim she loved him.
Ha! Unbelievable, Darion sneered to himself.
This is insane.
Darion turned to Matthew, his gaze icy cold. “Are you really going to let Thalia shoulder all this for you?”
Thalia’s breath faltered. “Darion, you have to stop! If he drinks it all, he’ll be in real trouble!”
But Darion ignored her, keeping his eyes locked on Matthew.
Everyone present knew, even if no one said it out loud, why things had escalated to this point.
Matthew was starting to sober up a little. He’d clearly had a lot to drink. His face was flushed, his gaze a bit hazy, but he was still hanging on to his senses.
‘Of course not,” Matthew replied.
With that, he grabbed another bottle of liquor and took another long drink.
‘No, you can’t!” Thalia cried out.
Thalia lunged forward, desperate to stop him.
But Darion pulled her into his arms, his grip like a steel chain around her waist. She couldn’t break free, and she couldn’t even get close to Matthew.
Thalia watched in horror as Matthew chugged the whole bottle of strong liquor. Tears rolled down her checks.
This is all my fault.
I dragged him into this mess,’ she realized bitterly.
Her determination was wavering.
Whatever.
I’ll just drop the charges.
‘Guess I’ll just have to put up with it.
‘Isn’t life just about muddling through, no matter how you live it?’ she thought bitterly.

Matthew set the empty bottle down on the coffee table, his voice calm, neither too soft nor too harsh, as he looked at her.
Thalia, don’t worry about me. I’ll be fine. I’m not the kind of guy who abandons his people, and what she started, she has to see it through.” he said.
He spoke slowly, as if he knew exactly what she was thinking.
After finishing his words, Matthew bolted for the bathroom. Not long after, everyone could hear him puking his guts out.
Thalia was shaking all over, her eyes wet with tears.
Darion’s expression was grim. Seeing how distressed and guilty she looked, he reached out and gently brushed her tears rom her cheeks.
There’s still one more bottle. If you don’t want him to keep drinking, then convince him to tell his people to stop whatever hey’re doing,” Darion said, his tone deceptively gentle, but his words were ice cold.
Thalia lifted her hand to strike him, but Darion seized her wrist before she could even touch him.
He guided her to the couch and sat her down beside him, then grabbed a tissue and carefully wiped away her tears.
Thalia, it’s your call,” Darion said in a calm voice.
His touch was gentle, but Thalia felt suffocated, like the air was being squeezed out of her chest.
Thalia was shaking uncontrollably, and in her eyes, Darion saw clear, unmistakable hatred flooding through them.
Darion saw it, and his breath caught in his throat. For a moment, he wondered if he was hallucinating. He stared straight nto her eyes, as if trying to make sure he wasn’t imagining it.
