The Clinton Howard standing before her was nothing like the spirited, ambitious guy she’d first met. Now, he looked like he’d hit rock bottom.
There was a flicker of resentment in his eyes, but it vanished just as quickly.
Thalia was silent for a moment before she finally spoke. “Why not try switching companies?”
“I’ve already jumped ship three times,” Clinton said with a bitter smile. “But it’s always the same story. That’s why I’m sure someone’s out to get me.”
He stared at the food in front of him, then suddenly grabbed the bottle and poured himself a drink. After downing it in one go, he closed his eyes and said.
Thalia, just let me talk to Darion. I’ll apologize, whatever he asks, I’ll do it. Just ask him to stop messing with me. I really can’t take this anymore.”
Workplace bullying.
Clinton was finally getting a taste of what workplace bullying really meant.
He had talent, and his bosses pretended to appreciate his abilities, but they went out of their way to hold him back, steal his chances, and drive him to the edge, making him question his own worth.
Thalia’s brows furrowed, and without hesitation, she pulled out her phone. As she dialed Darion’s number, she said, “I honestly don’t know the details. Let me call him right now and find out.”
Clinton’s knuckles were white around his glass as he nodded, his voice rough. “Alright.”
After three rings, the call finally connected.
Hey, Thalia, Darion answered.
His voice was gentle, almost tender.
Every time she reached out to him, it always made his day.
Thalia’s tone was cool, her expression conflicted. “Are you targeting Clinton?”
Who?” Darion replied.
just that one word made it clear. Darion had nothing to do with Clinton being targeted.
Thalia had guessed right. Darion didn’t even remember Clinton.
With a hint of resignation, Thalia said, “It’s nothing.”
Then she hung up abruptly.
Darion stared at his phone, his handsome, commanding brows furrowing.
Who is Clinton?’ he wondered.
She actually called me just to question me about some guy I’ve never even heard of?’ Darion thought, a trace of annoyance flickering in his mind.

Darion quickly messaged Ryan Johnson, telling him to look into this Clinton Howard and send over everything he could
find.
Back at the restaurant.
Thalia said. “You heard what he said. Whatever’s been happening to you, it wasn’t him.”
“No way…” Clinton looked stunned. “Ever since I got to Oakwood, Darion’s the only one who’s ever acted hostile toward me. I haven’t crossed anyone else, and I was transferred because of him…”
Now, hearing that it wasn’t Darion all along? Clinton just couldn’t wrap his head around it. He refused to believe it.
Thalia pressed her lips together, her gaze dropping as she thought. ‘Maybe I really can help him this time, Thalia mused.
