Thalia frowned, shooting him a complicated look. “If you’d just stayed still, it wouldn’t have reopened.

“You were the one squirming. I only moved to keep you from moving,” Darion said, totally unfazed.

The nurse nearby overheard them, her cheeks suddenly turning red. She quickly packed up her things and, before heading out, reminded them, “And seriously, no strenuous activity.”

With that, she made a quick exit.

Thalia was left speechless.

Darion raised an eyebrow at her. “Did you hear that? No strenuous activity.”

Thalia was lost for words again.

She really couldn’t be bothered with him right now.

Just then, her phone rang again. It was Trenton Coleman.

He’d already called her earlier that morning.

And now he was calling again.

Thalia lowered her gaze and hung up.

Soon, Darion’s phone started ringing too. He glanced at the screen and said, “It’s your dad calling. Should I answer?”

“That’s your business, not mine,” Thalia said coolly.

Darion raised an eyebrow, then answered the call. “Hello?”

Trenton sounded frantic. “Darion, is Thalia with you? I can’t find her anywhere. I’ve been calling, but she won’t answer. Her mom just went into surgery, and the doctors say it’s critical. She might not make it…”

Darion put the call on speaker, so Thalia could hear everything Trenton was saying.

Her hands clenched tightly, and for a moment, her face went completely blank.

Darion glanced at her and said, “She’s not with me. I can’t reach her either.”

“What am I supposed to do now…” Trenton sounded completely exhausted, sighing deeply. “Her mom just wants to see her one last time. Why does Thalia have to be so stubborn…”

He didn’t finish his sentence, but it was clear he was blaming Thalia.

Darion asked, “What happened to Shyla?”

Trenton hesitated for a second, then continued, “She has a heart problem. It flared up a few days ago. All she wants is to see Thalia. She’s scared she won’t make it, and wants to apologize to her. But back when I could get ahold of Thalia, she refused to come. Sigh…”

hesitated before asking, “Has Miya gone missing? Do you know where she is? If you can find her, could you ask her to come see us too?”

When Trenton mentioned Miya, his voice softened even more.

Darion replied, “I don’t know.”

Trenton paused for a moment, then said, “Alright, alright. If you hear anything about her, just let us know.”

“Okay,” Darion replied.
