Miya’s scream continued from the phone. “Hahaha, I did it! They can’t stand you now. No matter what you do, they’ll never like you again. Hahaha!”

Miya’s maniacal laughter echoed throughout the hospital room.
All at once, Miya’s strength vanished. She slumped to the floor like a dead dog, her face ghostly pale and her eyes empty and lifeless.
Shyla and Trenton looked at Miya, their faces full of disbelief, searching for answers. But seeing her ashen- faced and utterly defeated, they couldn’t find the words to speak.
‘So that’s why she pleaded, resisted, and looked so stiff and regretful earlier,’ Shyla and Trenton thought. ‘It all makes sense now. It was all because of this.’
“Revenge?” Shyla muttered, barely believing the word as it left her mouth.
She sank down onto the floor, memories flooding back, years and years of favoring Miya over Thalia.
Because of that, she’d kept overlooking Thalia, letting her take all the pain and unfairness.
The old house in the garden had even turned into a place where Thalia was locked up.
‘So Miya was behind it all? She was the one manipulating everything?’ Shyla thought, her heart sinking.
Trenton was just as stunned. He couldn’t believe he’d been manipulated by a kid like Miya.
Furious, he stormed over and slapped Miya hard across the face.
“We took you in out of kindness, but never thought we’d raise a backstabber under our own roof!” Trenton
shouted.
Shyla instinctively tried to stop him, but her hand stalled halfway! She looked at Miya, her heart breaking, her voice trembling. “Miya, after all these years, we treated you like family. Did none of that ever make you let go of your grudge? Do you really hate us this much?”
Miya’s ears buzzed, her vision swimming with spots, and her cheek stung fiercely.
She blinked numbly, fixing her gaze on Shyla. “So, are you finally going to admit it? Admit you were the ones who ruined my parents?”
Shyla bit her lip, crying quietly, tears slipping down her cheeks.
Trenton said, “It was a life-or-death situation. We could barely save ourselves. How could we possibly care about anyone else?”
Vicky stood off to the side, watching the whole scene unfold. Finally, she walked over and helped Miya to
her feet.
“What’s the point of talking about all that now?” Vicky said, her voice firm. “My daughter and son-in-law

traded their lives for yours. You should have loved Miya, no matter what she did. You should have cared for her, because that’s what you owe her!”
She turned to Shyla, her tone softening. “Shyla, if I could, I wish you were my own daughter. I’ve always loved you like you were mine, especially after my daughter passed away. All my longing for her, I placed on you. You’re my only blood relative now. You’ll love her, won’t you?”
Trenton’s face darkened. “No way! She’s brought nothing but chaos to the Coleman family. I won’t let her step foot in this house again. If she’s so obsessed with her parents, then she should go back to using the Smith name!”
