Darion scooped Keith up into his arms and said, “You’re mistaken. That’s not your mom. She just happens to look like her.”
“No, that’s my mom! I want my mom! Mom!” Keith sobbed, his voice breaking as he called out.
Keith started bawling, wriggling in Darion’s arms and scrambling frantically toward the car window.
“Keith!”
Darion’s tone grew heavier, his gaze turning icy.
Keith froze mid-sob, staring up at Darion with big, watery eyes, pure fear shining in them.
Darion’s heart melted, and he spoke softly, “That’s not your mom, Keith. Calm down, okay?”
Keith sniffled, his voice barely above a whisper. “But I want my mom.”
Darion’s brows furrowed. He held Keith close, gently comforting him After a long while, Keith finally quieted down, but his eyes remained fixed on the outside.
Miya failed to stop the car. The moment she saw the bodyguards charging toward her, she spun around
and bolted.
She dashed down another street, hopped into a van, and was gone in a flash.
The bodyguard reported the situation to Darion, who scoffed. “She’s always causing trouble. Find her and ship her overseas, no questions asked.”
“Yes, sir.”
At the hospital.
Diana was looking a bit better than yesterday. Her face wasn’t as pale, but her responses were still sluggish.
Diana stared at Thalia for a moment before finally smiling. “Thalia, is that you?”
Thalia fought back the ache in her heart and asked, “Diana, are you feeling any better today?”
Diana paused for a few seconds before replying, “I just don’t have any strength left. I’m just old and can’t do much anymore.”
Thalia cast her eyes down. Ever since Diana woke up, she hadn’t even mentioned Shyla’s name.
‘Is it that she doesn’t want to bring it up, or does she not even realize Shyla had anything to do with her poisoning?’ Thalia wondered.
‘Or maybe Diana just doesn’t want to talk about it, numbing herself, as if ignoring it could somehow ease

the pain. Thalia thought.
Thalia’s heart suddenly ached for this gentle, soft-hearted woman.
Thalia said, “The sun’s out today. How about we go for a walk?”

Diana looked outside for a long while before finally saying, “No, I just don’t have the energy. I’m really
tired.”
Thalia walked over and gently took her grandma’s hand. “Grandma, is there anything you want to talk to
me about?”
Diana was slow to respond, studying Thalia’s face for a moment before reaching out and softly stroking her cheek. “Thalia, I’m okay. I’m just old and tired, and nothing really excites me anymore. You don’t have to worry about me, sweetheart.”
Thalia lowered her head, and her tears fell instantly.
Right then, her phone started ringing. She checked the caller ID. It was Trenton.
She wiped her tears, got up, and walked out to take the call.
“Thalia, it’s Dad,” Trenton’s gentle voice came through the phone.
“Which hospital are you and Diana staying at? Your mom and I want to come visit her.”
Thalia’s voice was icy. “Where do you get the nerve?”
Trenton was momentarily at a loss for words, but he pressed on. “I know we messed up, but Miya manipulated us. If she hadn’t stirred up trouble in our family, things wouldn’t have ended up like this. We were completely deceived. Thalia, when all is said and done, we’re still family.”
“I’m not your real daughter,” Thalia said bluntly. “And I’m definitely not part of your family!”
