Chapter 479
Miya was stunned, but couldn’t hide the excitement in her voice. “Mom, are you… are you actually caring about me?”
Shyla replied, “Of course. You’re the daughter I raised. How could I not care about you? Your dad misses you so much too. He just lost his temper back then. Please, don’t hold it against him.”
“1…”
Miya opened her mouth, wanting to say something, but her voice broke. “I thought you’d given up on me!”
Shyla closed her eyes, wracked with guilt, and forced herself to speak. “No, I would never give up on you, Miya. Where are you now? Can you come see me? I’ve been really sick lately. I can’t even get out of bed. I’m scared I might never see you again.”
“Mom, I’m living with Diana. I heard what happened to the Coleman family. Are you and Dad okay? Where are you now?” Miya asked, her voice full of concern.
Shyla said, “We moved out and sold the old house. The Coleman Group went bankrupt. I never expected Thalia to be so ruthless. Luckily, she’s not my biological daughter. All these years, the one I’ve truly cared for is you, Miya. Please, come see us.”
“Okay, I’ll come by when I have time,” Miya replied, trying to sound casual. She said a few more words and then hung up.
Shyla was anxious. “Are we really sure this is okay?”
Trenton let out a sigh. “Do you have a better plan?”
Shyla went quiet, then broke into a fit of coughing, her face turning even paler.
Miya hung up, feeling a bit out of it. After a while, she turned to Vicky and asked, “Grandma, are they just using me?”
Vicky snorted. “Trenton is a selfish, petty man. Now that the Coleman family is bankrupt, he wants to use you to win Thalia over and get her to spare the Coleman family.
“Otherwise, why would he wait so many days before reaching out? Miya, don’t let yourself be fooled. Don’t go soft on them.”
Miya looked sad. “Grandma, I’ve had doubts too. They really treated me well.”
“But you sacrificed so much just to earn their kindness,” Vicky said, gently stroking her face. “Don’t let anything mess with your head now. You need to see your son. No matter what it takes, you need to stay close to him. That’s the only way you’ll have a shot at a real life.”
The hesitation in Miya’s eyes disappeared instantly. She nodded with determination. “I get it. I’ve already got Keith’s kindergarten teacher’s contact info. It won’t be long before I win her trust, and then I’ll finally get to see Keith.”

Chapter 179
Whenever she thought about her son, she felt a surge of anger and sadness.
She despised Darion for snatching her son away and refusing to let her see him.
She was going to see him, no matter what anyone said.
She’d force them to recognize her, and make sure she stayed with Keith, no matter what.
Over the next few days, Trenton and Shyla kept waiting for Miya to call, but she just went radio silent.
Shyla couldn’t help but feel anxious. “What’s going on? Why isn’t she calling me back?”
