“Where are you right now? I need to see you,” Thalia replied, determined to get answers from Wendy.

They settled on a place to meet. Thalia wasted no time. She jumped in the shower, threw on some fresh clothes, and headed out to meet Wendy.

Meanwhile, Darion had also caught wind of the situation. He was on the phone with Jason, listening as Jason broke down his plan.

“Darion, I’ve thought it over. This is the only way to get rid of that lunatic for good. I’m pretty sure Wendy doesn’t want to get dragged into all this chaos, right? So Wendy and I talked, and we’re getting married. That way, we can settle this once and for all,” Jason explained.

Darion’s tone turned serious. “If you know he’s crazy, have you considered what he’ll do when he finds out you’ve deceived him?”

Jason paused for a couple seconds before replying, “He wouldn’t actually try to steal my wife, would he? This is Oakwood, not his mercenary headquarters. He can’t just run wild here!”

Darion closed his eyes briefly. “Jason, this isn’t your problem. You don’t need to get involved.”

“Who says it has nothing to do with me? I’ve known Wendy for years. As her friend, I should help her out, right?” Jason insisted. “Besides, it’s just a fake marriage. Once this blows over, we’ll get divorced and both go our separate ways. No harm done.”

“Alright, as long as you’ve thought it through,” Darion said.

With that, Darion hung up the phone.

When they met up, Wendy told Thalia everything she’d been feeling and thinking.

Thalia rubbed her temples and asked, “Are you sure Jason really doesn’t like you?”

Wendy shook her head. “I’ve double-checked with him. He really doesn’t, so I felt okay going along with his suggestion.”

“But what’s he getting out of this?” Thalia asked.

She was echoing Wendy’s own doubts.

Wendy shrugged. “He said his family’s been on his case about getting married, so this is just a way for him to get them off his back for a few years.”

Thalia frowned a little. “How long did you guys agree to stay married?”

“Two years, I guess. By then, I figure Quinn will have forgotten all about me,” Wendy replied.

“Okay,” Thalia said:

She nodded, then asked, “Wendy, are you really sure about this? Marriage isn’t something you can just play around with, and divorce isn’t always easy. What if something changes and he doesn’t agree to the divorce? You could end up in the same mess I’m in now.”

She wanted to make sure Wendy knew all the risks up front.

But Wendy just shrugged. “He doesn’t even like me, so why would he refuse to get divorced?”

Thalia nodded. “You’ve got a point.”

They were just teaming up for this, with no real feelings between them, so it shouldn’t get messy.

Thalia couldn’t help but sigh, “Seriously, it’s so sudden. Just like that, you’re getting married.”
