Harvey glanced at the bodyguards, his face darkening, but he kept his composure. Turning to Matthew, he said. “My boss just wants to know, do you still remember that little fishing boat?”
Matthew’s whole body tensed, and he finally closed his eyes. “I remember.”
Harvey nodded. “That’s good. My boss knows what you’re dealing with, so he sent me to check on you.”
With that, he suddenly lunged at Matthew.
The bodyguards were ready. One of them jabbed Harvey in the back with a stun gun. Harvey’s body convulsed, and he collapsed to the floor, unconscious.
He never even got close to Matthew.
A hint of disappointment flashed in Matthew’s eyes as he closed them.
Darion walked over after a moment. “If I’m not mistaken, he came here to kill you, didn’t he?”
Matthew didn’t say a word.
Thalia’s fists were clenched tight at her sides. “Why won’t you ever tell me who sent you to kill me? Why are you always keeping it from me?”
Matthew looked up at her. “If I told you, you’d try to get revenge, and she can’t die.”
“Ugh, you!”
Thalia was so angry she could barely get the words out, but there was nothing she could do about
Matthew.
He was stubborn as a mule; no matter what anyone did, he wouldn’t say a word.
Darion kept his cool as he spoke. “You remember Jason’s sister, right? She’s been studying hypnosis for years, and now she’s a world-class hypnotist.
“She just returned to the country a few days ago, and it just so happens I can invite her over. Tell me, how many rounds of hypnosis do you think you could withstand?”
Matthew’s body trembled slightly, his eyes fierce as he glared at Darion. “I’m not saying a word!”
Darion went on, slow and deliberate. “She doesn’t just hypnotize people. She can actually damage your mind, like making you relive your worst memories in your dreams, trapped in nightmares for the rest of your life.”
“Or she could erase your most important memories, so you’d completely forget why you’re keeping this
secret at all.”
Darion looked at him coolly. “Matthew, you can stay silent if you want, but trust me, I’ve got plenty of ways to make you talk.”
With that, he took Thalia’s hand and led her out of the room.

Thalia was left speechless by what she’d just heard. Once they were out of the basement, she finally managed to ask, “Is that for real?”
“Yeah,” Darion nodded.
“But people with real talent always have their quirks. Viola Campbell, Jason’s sister, she’s got a real personality. She won’t lift a finger to help until she’s finished ‘whatever she’s working on.”
Thalia had never met Viola before; she’d only heard Jason mention her. Apparently, she spent most of her time abroad and hardly ever came home. Even when she did, she’d just stay for a few days and then take off again.
Thalia couldn’t help but be curious about her.
When they got back to Rosewood Manor, Thalia’s phone started ringing. She pulled it out and saw it was Wendy calling.
“Hey, Wendy,” Thalia answered right away.
