Chapter 520
They were standing close, but the air between them felt suffocating.

Darion slowly put the sketch down, staring at her emotionless, cool expression. It felt like someone had dumped a bucket of ice water over him.
‘It’s always like this,’ Darion thought.
‘Every time I start to believe things might finally get better between us, she just crushes my hopes and brings me crashing back to reality,’ he told himself.
The so-called peace between them was nothing but a mask for the transactional nature of their relationship.
Their connection was far from genuine harmony.
She was willing to compromise and accept his terms only because he could help her. That was the sole reason she remained by his side.
He wished he could just be selfish for once.
‘What if I just stopped digging?
‘If I kept lying to her, would she stay with me for good?’ he thought.
But the idea barely crossed his mind before he shut it down.
That so-called Vera Holt was threatening Thalia’s life.
Once Quinn was gone and word of Matthew’s death got out, there would be others hunting Thalia.
As long as the real threat wasn’t dealt with, Thalia would never be safe.
Darion let out a sigh. “You don’t have to keep reminding me.”
Thalia turned and headed for the door.
Just as she reached the doorway, Darion’s calm voice drifted over from behind. “You’re staying here tonight.”
Thalia paused, glancing back at him.
Darion said coolly, “It’s part of the deal, isn’t it?”
Thalia fell silent.
She withdrew her gaze and left his room without a word.
Fortunately, she had managed to gain something from all this.
She’d finally learned who Matthew’s boss was, the one who might want her dead.

Chapter 520
After taking a shower and trying to clear her mind, Thalia opened the door to Darion’s room
But he wasn’t there.
She didn’t think much of it. She pulled back the covers and got into bed. Staring up at the familiar ceiling. her thoughts, which had just calmed down, started spinning all over again.
This was their master bedroom.
They’d been staying here ever since their wedding night.
The room overflowed with memories, some sweet, some painful.
Thalia didn’t want to revisit any of it. All she wanted was to escape.
But just as she started to get up, the door swung open and Darion walked in, carrying his laptop. He hadn’t even changed out of his work clothes, clearly ready to keep working.
Thalia looked at him and asked, “Not going to just do it?”
But Darion sat down on the couch, put his laptop on his lap, and said seriously, “I’ve got some work to finish. We’ll get to it after I’m done.”
His fingers started tapping away at the keyboard, the sound sharp and clear in the quiet room.
Thalia sat on the bed, keeping her eyes on Darion for a bit. Then she leaned back against the headboard, pulled out her phone, and started playing some casual mobile games, just to keep her mind off things.
Before she knew it, drowsiness washed over her. She gradually slumped sideways, her breathing becoming deep and even.
Darion looked up. Thalia was resting on their bed, the one they once shared as newlyweds. Her face was gentle and beautiful, and their wedding photo still hung on the wall.
Once, scenes like this were just part of everyday life. Now, seeing her like this felt like something he could only wish for.
