Thalia’s tears fell as she looked at Darion, her voice trembling. “I know I can’t fall apart right now, but what about Wendy’ I can’t even imagine what Quinn might do to her. She…”
Darion pulled her into his arms. Her tears felt like hot iron on his heart, making it throb with pain.
“It’s her fate to face this, but she’ll be safe,” he reassured her, but deep in his dark eyes was only cold indifference
He’d already made his choice.
No one mattered more than Thalia.
Thalia closed her eyes, resting in his arms and letting her tears fall freely. Guilt and sadness weighed heavily on her heart, and she couldn’t help but blame herself.
She felt responsible for not keeping Wendy safe.
“Thalia.”
At that moment, Mrs. Adkins walked over. Her face was pale, and her makeup looked smudged and tired.
Thalia quickly wiped away her tears and looked at Mrs. Adkins. “Mrs. Adkins.”
“What really happened between Wendy and that man?” Mrs. Adkins asked, struggling to get the words out. Wendy had already been taken away, and Mrs. Adkins’ eyes were red and swollen from crying.
Thalia took a steadying breath and said softly, “It was just a fluke, Mrs. Adkins. Wendy never cared about it. She barely even remembers. It’s Quinn who’s been obsessed with her all this time.”
Mrs. Adkins’ tears streamed down her face. “Is Wendy going to be alright? Why was she so reckless? How could she get tangled up with a guy like that?
“I kept telling her to settle down and get married, but she just wouldn’t listen. If only she’d listened, none of this would have happened…
Even now, she couldn’t stop blaming Wendy for everything.
Thalia couldn’t hold back anymore. “Wendy only went to the bar because she was so stressed out. You kept pushing her into all those dates, never giving her any space.
“Mrs. Adkins, I’ve always wanted to ask, why do you keep fixing her up with so many men? She’s your only daughter, and she’s not even 25 yet. Are you really that desperate to marry her off?”
Mrs. Adkins snapped, “What do you know? For a woman, the most important thing is to marry a good man so she’ll have someone to rely on for the rest of her life. I’m doing this for her own good. She brought this on herself…”
“Mrs. Adkins!” Thalia cut her off. “Wendy’s been taken away, and her fate is still unknown!”
Mrs. Adkins opened her mouth, then covered her face and burst into tears again. “That girl, she never lets me rest for a single day. What am I supposed to do now.
She was utterly helpless and desperate, and now there was no one left to hear her nagging.
Thalia didn’t want to comfort her. She just couldn’t take another word of Mrs. Adkins blaming Wendy

Without another word, she turned on her heel and left. Jason had gone to the hospital, and she wanted to see how he was doing
But as soon as she stepped out of the hotel, she spotted Viola leaning against a car, a lollipop between her lips, watching her with that signature half-smile.
Thalia froze mid-step.
Viola drawled, “So, are you finally going to spill what really went down?”
Darion said, “We’ll talk about it as we go.”
Viola raised an eyebrow, opened the back door for them, then got behind the wheel herself.
