“Mm Darton responded quietly, then headed straight for the elevator

He took it down to the second basement level, stepped out, and walked right up to the shooting range. As soon as he pushed the door open, rapid gunshots echoed through the room.
It’s been an hour since I dropped her off. Has she really been training nonstop this whole time? Darion thought.
He watched her slender, upright figure, both hands gripping the pistol, ear protection covering her ears, her bright eyes locked on the moving target ahead. Her gaze was intensely focused and sharp. Once she locked onto the target’s movement, she opened fire.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
She fired off the whole magazine, and a few shots even landed right in the bullseye.
Darion raised his brows, then said, “You’re getting better really fast.”
Thalia set down her pistol, grabbed a water bottle from the side, and took a sip. Then she asked, “How’s Keith doing?” Darion looked at her, his eyes deep and intense. He spoke in a low, steady voice, “He’ll need to stay in the hospital for a few days so they can keep an eye on his recovery. As for any long-term effects, it’s still too early to tell.”
Thalia’s long lashes fluttered as she tightened her grip on the water bottle. She asked, “What are you going to do about Miya?”
Miya’s the one behind all this. She poisoned Keith just to satisfy her own selfish desires. If they let her get away with it, that’d be letting her off way too easy.
Darion replied, “No rush. We’ll deal with it once Keith’s condition stabilizes.”
Thalia nodded, then headed for the door.
She was exhausted after an hour of practice and needed to head back to rest.
But just as she was about to leave, Darion suddenly grabbed her wrist. Thalia looked down at his hand gripping her, then ollowed his arm up to meet his deep, dark eyes.
Is there something you need?” Thalia raised an eyebrow, curiosity in her voice.
What’s going on?’ she wondered, her brow slightly arched.
Darion nodded. “I do have something I need to discuss with you.”
Thalia pulled her hand free, took a couple of steps back, and leaned against the wall. “Go ahead, I’m listening.”
Darion looked at her, his tone softening as he told her about the promise he’d made to Keith. “If you agree, you can ask me for anything you want. Anything at all.”
He lowered his gaze, his voice growing heavy with guilt. “It’s all my fault that Keith ended up like this. From now on. I just want to make sure he has a better life”
A shadow of loneliness fell over Darion. He’d kept these deep emotions hidden beneath his calm exterior. At first, he’d been a bit distant, but in the days since, he hadn’t let it show at all.

But now, he was letting her see this side of him.
When he finished. Darion lifted his gaze to her, a faint, uncertain light flickering deep in his dark eyes.

The shooting range was quiet, and with every passing second, the hope in Darion’s heart faded away. He shifted his gaze from her face, just about to speak, when Thalia spoke first.
“Do as you wish.” Thalia said, her voice cool. “We’re just business partners. When all this is over, you’ll live your life with him, and I’ll live mine.”
With that, she turned and headed for the door.
