sebastian pushed up his glasses and gave her a gentle smile. “Where are you headed? I can give you a ride”
Bonnie looked a little embarrassed. “No, that’s okay. I’ll just take the subway.”
But Sebastian said. “I haven’t talked to Thalia lately, and honestly, I have no clue how she’s been. Maybe I messed up omewhere, but she hasn’t replied to me for ages. Could you help me out?”
Wait, really?” Bonnie’s face showed genuine surprise. “I always thought you and Thalia were super close.”
Sebastian gave a helpless smile. “I wish I knew what’s going on, too. So, would you mind helping me?”
de gazed at her warmly, not a trace of aggression in his eyes.
Bonnie remembered how Sebastian had sent someone to rescue her last time. Both emotionally and logically, she felt she eally couldn’t refuse him.
After weighing it in her mind, she finally nodded. “Alright, I’ll do my best.”
Sebastian smiled gently. “Hop in. We can talk on the way.”
Okay,” Bonnie replied.
Bonnie lived in the old part of town, and it took almost an hour to drive there. Along the way, she pretty much told Sebastian everything she knew about Thalia.
Sebastian listened, his refined features giving nothing away, but there was a deeper meaning in his eyes behind those glasses.
Her grandmother was still here, even living with her at Rosewood Manor, but she’d lied to him and said Diana had left.
Why would she lie to me?’ Sebastian wondered.
she’d suddenly started pulling away from him.
Did I do something to upset her?’ Sebastian wondered.
Sebastian couldn’t figure it out, but he kept it to himself. After dropping Bonnie off, he called Thalia.
After three rings, she finally picked up.
Hello? Thalia said, her voice soft but tinged with a subtle distance.
Her tone was gentle, yet there was a faint sense of detachment in Thalia’s voice.
Sebastian’s voice stayed gentle. “Thalia, have you been busy lately? It’s been a while since we last met. I was hoping we could grab a meal together.”
There was a pause on the other end before Thalia replied softly, “I’m sorry, Sebastian Things have been a bit hectic for me lately, so I don’t think I’ll be able to make it to dinner.”
Sebastian gripped his phone a little tighter. “What have you been busy with?”
Thalia was clearly taken aback. She never expected someone as polite and reserved as Sebastian to actually press her like
that.

“Sorry: Sebastian said, realizing he’d overstepped. He let out a resigned sigh. “I just don’t get it. Why did you suddenly start distancing yourself from me?”
He laid it all out there and asked her directly, not hiding anything anymore.
Thalia was silent for a long moment, a flicker of confusion crossing her eyes.
How could he even ask me that?’ Thalia thought, stunned.
‘Is he seriously still playing games in front of me?’ she wondered.
Does he seriously not know what he’s done?’ Thalia thought, her frustration growing.
