The next morning arrived with a gloomy dawn. Outside, wind whipped around, as sharp as blades.
Thalia arrived at the entrance to the courthouse, clutching her paperwork, and looked up just in time to see a black Rolls- Royce Phantom glide to a stop at the curb.
The car door swung open, and Darion stepped out, his tall, striking silhouette immediately drawing every eye.
His expression was icy, his presence radiating a fierce, intimidating energy. His dark, piercing gaze locked onto her, but she had no idea what he was thinking.
Thalia gave him a brief look, then turned and headed inside. Darion strode after her, watching her slender back, held perfectly straight.
They picked up their number and waited in the waiting area. It seemed they’d chosen the wrong day; the place was crowded with couples seeking divorce.
Neither of them said a word. Thalia kept her eyes lowered, her heart hanging in her throat. She didn’t dare relax-not yet.
“Does this sit well with you?” Just then, Darion’s low, magnetic voice suddenly broke the silence beside her.
Thalia’s long lashes quivered as she replied, “If we don’t end this, I’ll be even more unhappy.”
Darion looked at her. “You pushed me to this. Did you ever think about how I feel?”
Thalia turned to him. “Let me ask you-when you went with Miya to her prenatal checkups in the U.S., did you ever think about how I felt? And when you got a vasectomy for Keith’s sake, did I even cross your mind?”
“I wasn’t doing it for anyone else.” Darion’s tone darkened.
“So you’re saying you did it for me?” Thalia gave a mocking smile. “Then why not sooner? Why wait until Keith was born?
“You’ve always put him first and always put the Blackburn family first. When was I part of your consideration?”
She spoke with an almost unsettling calm. She had expected to wake heartbroken, but after a night to let it all sink in, she realized she felt nothing at all.
This should’ve ended a long time ago. She wouldn’t have been trapped in this misery for so long.
She took a deep breath. “Darion, since I once saved your life, let me go. We don’t work.”
‘Eight years, and now she says we’re not right for each other?’ Darion thought.
He swallowed hard, looked away, and said coldly, “We’re here now. Whatever you want-marriage or divorce-it’s your call
She slowly looked away, staring at the number in her hand, feeling uncertain and uneasy.
One by one, the numbers were called. Couples filed for divorce, starting the clock on their mandatory separation period.
Soon, it was Thalia and Darion’s turn, and they stepped up to the counter to present their divorce agreement.
Thalia said. “Eight years together-30 million dollars for the divorce. That’s not too much, right?”
Darion stayed silent, his face darkening into an even grimmer expression.

Thalia signed her name and said, I’m not asking for anything else. Just sign it.”
“Not even the house we lived in?” Darion asked suddenly.
