Chapter 59
The call was from Helen. “Thalia, are you at the courthouse? Her voice was urgent.
Thalia gripped the pen in her hand and replied. “Yes. Mom
“No, you can’t get divorced, Helen said, her tone growing sharper “Even if you want to, it can’t be now
Thalia blinked and let out a sigh. “Mom, I don’t want to wait anymore

“Absolutely not! You two get back here right now How could you even think about getting divorced without talking to us first?
“Do you think we’re never coming back to the Blackburn family, leaving everything behind?” Helen said angrily, then hung up.
Meanwhile, Darion got a call from his father, Richard
“Get your ass back here right now, or don’t bother calling me your father anymore. Richard snapped, not even waiting for a response before hanging up.
Darion stood up and headed for the door
“Sign the papers before you leave’ Thalia grabbed his arm
Darion turned to look at her, his eyes darkening “My folks are back. Dad said if I don’t get home right now, he’ll break my legs
He glanced at her phone. “Mom called you, didn’t she? She’s always been good to you. You can’t deny that. Let’s go back and hear them out.”
Thalia gritted her teeth, but she couldn’t bring herself to say no She knew Helen had treated her well.
As Doctors Without Borders volunteers, they barely spent a month at home each year, and this time they were running even later than usual.
Sandra had suddenly fallen ill, so they decided to come back. But no one expected their return to happen right in the middle of Darion and Thalia’s divorce.
Darion caught her hand. I’m not happy with the divorce agreement anyway, Might as well draft a new one. We’ll only go through with it when we’re both satisfied.”
His big hand wrapped around hers, his warmth gradually thawing her cold fingertips. The shadow in his eyes seemed to lift as he walked her out of the courthouse.
She yanked her hand away, her face set in a stubborn line.
They drove back to Blackburn Manor. Richard and Helen were sitting on the couch, while Sandra quietly sipped her tea. The tension in the living room was palpable.
“Dad. Mom Darion greeted his parents as he walked in.
Richard got up right away “Follow me to the study

Glancing at Helen, Darion leaned in a little and whispered, “Mom, why is Dad so pissed?”
His mother smacked him on the arm. “I’m pissed too.”
Darion was speechless. He turned away, looking a bit sheepish, and headed for the study.
Helen rose and crossed to her, gently taking Thalia’s hand; her voice was soft now, nothing like the stern tone she had used on the phone.
“Thalia, you’ve gotten so thin. Come, let’s go to the room and talk properly. Tell me what’s been going on.”
Thalia’s breath hitched, her eyes burning with the urge to cry.
Sandra let out a cold snort and set her coffee cup down with a sharp clink. “She’s the one pushing for divorce, and now she’s hurt Keith, your own grandson. Doesn’t that break your heart?”
Helen replied, “I don’t believe Thalia would do such a thing.”
