Chapter 6 You Can Have Them
Chapter 6 You Can Have Them
Shyla grabbed Thalia’s hand. “Thalia, it’s not what you think. Miya just arrived, and this wasn’t a planned party.” Thalia tilted her head, her eyes turning red. “So she’s allowed to be here, but I’m not? Is Miya the one you truly see as your daughter, dad? Mom? Am I the outsider you took in?”
Trenton snapped, “Thalia! You’ve never liked Miya, and that’s exactly why we didn’t invite you.
“Now that you’re back, let’s celebrate my birthday happily. Don’t make a scene and ruin it for me.”
Thalia glanced at each person in the room, one by one. Shyla avoided her eyes, Miya held a cautious, almost fearful expression, and Trenton looked at her with thinly veiled annoyance. They all moved with hesitation, as if walking on eggshells around her.
‘Are they really that afraid of me?’ Thalia thought.
She walked slowly to the coffee table, placing the gift box gently on it. “Happy birthday, dad.”
Trenton, taking her quiet gesture as a sign of surrender, let out a small huff of relief and smiled. “Alright, thanks for your gift. Sit down now. Let’s not dwell on this.”
Thalia stayed on her feet, turning her gaze to Miya while saying, “Congrats, Miya. You got what you wanted.
“No need to compete with me anymore. My husband’s yours now. We’re getting divorced.
“As for Mom and Dad, if you want them so much, you can have them too.”
Miya’s face turned pale. “Lia, I didn’t…”
“Thalia!” Trenton snapped again. “Stop your nonsenses. There is a kid here!”
Thalia’s eyes were red-rimmed, but she clamped down hard, refusing to let the tears fall.
‘I will not let my makeup run; she told herself fiercely.
“Kid? Why don’t you ask him who he was with last night?” Thalia shot back.
She glanced at Keith, who was already tucked tightly in Miya’s arms. “Keith, wasn’t Darry with you last night?”
Keith nodded timidly. “Yes.”
Once Keith finished speaking, he swung back to face Trenton and Shyla, who both remained silent.
The silence in the room grew heavy, suffocating, almost tangible.
Keith shrank back, overwhelmed by the tension, and burst into tears.
Miya covered Keith’s ears and said urgently, “Lia, Keith had a fever. I didn’t know what to do… I had no other choice but to call Darion.
“If it bothers you, I won’t call him anymore. I’m leaving right now.”
Tears spilled down her cheeks as she spoke. She gathered her crying son into her arms and made for the door.
They looked every bit the wronged ones, as if they had been the ones suffering under cruel accusations.
“Get out!” Trenton leaped to his feet, pointing furiously at Thalia. “Can you ever stop causing trouble in this family? Miya is Darion’s widowed sister-in-law, and Keith is his only nephew. What’s wrong with him helping them?
“Did you really have to make a huge scene out of this? Sometimes I wish I’d never had you as my daughter!”
Tears finally broke free from Thalia’s eyes. She dug her nails deep into her palms, struggling to keep her voice steady as she faced her parents.
Alright. If you see nothing wrong with what she’s done, I’ll go,” she stated coldly. “Don’t worry, I’m not coming back. I was never really your daughter, right? Let’s end everything here.”
She spun around and left without a single backward glance, her expression icy and unyielding.
“Lia!” Miya hurried over with Keith in her arms and dropped to her knees.
