Chapter 7 An Outsider Here
“Thalia.” Darion’s voice cut through the tension. He strode over, rushing first to help Miya and Keith stand. Then he grabbed Thalia’s arm, his voice sharp as he snapped, “What are you doing?”
Thalia stumbled from his force. Ignoring his anger, she asked, “How did you end up here? Didn’t they tell you there’d be no birthday party this year?”
After she finished, she glanced at Shyla and Trenton, whose eyes were darting away, guilty and uneasy. “Oh, so I’m the only one they told there wouldn’t be a party, right?” Thalia’s voice oozed sarcasm.
She got it now. “I should’ve known. Miya’s your real daughter. You all are the real family. Even this birthday party, only she and Darion got invited.”
With that, she gave a defiant smirk and swung her leg at Miya again. “Can’t you tell? I’m picking on her on purpose.”
“Ah!” Thalia yelped as Darion roughly pushed her away.
She stumbled backward, her back slamming painfully against a vase.
“Thalia,” Darion’s expression flickered, his tone softening slightly.
“It’s your father’s birthday today. Whatever you have to say, save it for later.”
Thalia shrugged, saying, “I don’t have anything to say. You’re all celebrating as a family. Why would that have anything to do with me, an outsider here?”
She dusted herself off and straightened her clothes before speaking coldly, “Once the party is over, go straight to the courthouse to finalize our divorce.”
“Thalia!” Shyla exclaimed in panic. She hurried over, her voice shaking. “You can’t treat divorce like it’s trivial! You’ve been together for years. How can you end it so easily?”
Thalia retorted, “If we stay married, how can Miya take what she wants? Are you okay with her being a homewrecker with a son?”
With that, Thalia held her head high and challenged Darion with a sharp glare while pointing at Miya and Keith. “If you won’t sign the divorce papers, I’ll make sure they suffer every time I see them. I’ll expose her as the mistress to everyone.”
“Miya, take Keith upstairs. You’re not leaving today. You’re the daughter I chose, and no one can drive you out!” Trenton stood up firmly.
As Miya carried Keith upstairs, Trenton roared at the butler, Jadiel Pratt, “Bring me my whip!”
Jadiel scurried away and returned at once with the whip, placing it in Trenton’s hand.
Trenton pointed at Thalia, roaring, “I’ve indulged you for years, yet you’ve grown arrogant and cruel. You keep fighting your sister and threatening your nephew. Do you ever know what you’ve done?”
Thalia stared back at him icily with no remorse in her eyes.
“Since you refuse to admit your mistake, I’ll whip you until you do!” Fuming, Trenton swung the whip toward Thalia.
Shyla gasped and covered her lips, tears streaming down her face.
