Chapter 612

Dax Stone’s smile was straightforward, and his words were completely free of any pretense

In the darkness. Thalia couldn’t see his face, but the honesty in his voice really touched her.

A wave of warmth swept through her heart, and some of her anxiety and fear faded away.

She took a deep breath before saying, “Thank you.”

Dax waved his hand. “No need to be so polite with me. Come on, I’ll take you to a safe place for the night. You’ve never spent 1 night in the jungle before. It’s easy to get into trouble out here.”

Thalia nodded, then asked, “Did you see anyone else on your way here?”

Dax replied, “Yeah, they went into the jungle as well. I managed to shake them off, but I think they’ll probably catch up

soon.”

When Thalia heard that, her heart clenched. She didn’t say anything else and just followed Dax closely.

With Dax leading the way, they moved much faster, and Thalia didn’t have to keep checking her surroundings so carefully inymore.

After walking for nearly an hour, Dax looked around and said, “Let’s take a break here for now.”

Thalia was so exhausted she couldn’t even speak. She just plopped down on a dry log.

I’m going back to mess up our trail so they won’t find us anytime soon,” Dax said, his face serious. “Thalia, just wait here for

ne.”

Alright,” Thalia answered.

Thalia gave him a quick nod.

Jax spun around and headed off. Without her slowing him down, he picked up the pace.

Before long. Thalia couldn’t hear his footsteps at all.

The insects were noisy all around her, and she found herself tangled in cobwebs. She picked them off one by one, never etting her guard down.

About half an hour later, Dax came back, carrying a few fruits in his hand.

Thalia, try this,” he said. “I’ve eaten these before. They’re not poisonous. They’ll quench your thirst, and they’re sweet and Langy

Thalia looked at him in surprise. “How did you even find fruit in this darkness?”

Dax grinned. “Found them on a tree just off the path we came by.”

Thalia took a fruit and bit into it. It really was sweet and tangy. It tasted great.

Dax sat down beside her, crunching on his own fruit. After finishing one, he wiped his mouth and couldn’t help saying. “Thalia, you just headed into the mountains like that. Darion’s bound to find out”

Thalia lowered her gaze and said softly, “Let him find out. By the time he does, he won’t be able to find me
