Chapter 644
Thalia paused, shooting him a puzzled look.
Did he really just say that?’ she thought, surprised.
With the way he usually acts, not pushing his luck is already a miracle.
But now, he was acting all formal and keeping his distance from her.
She showed no further reaction and simply continued sipping her porridge.
Darion listened to the quiet sounds she made, a subtle smile playing on his lips.
Once she finished eating, the doctor came in to check on him.
The doctor examined the wound on Darion’s chest, seeing that it had stabilized. He then checked his eyes and replaced the bandages.
Thalia stood by and watched, and when the doctor took off the bandages from his eyes, her breath hitched for a second.
His eyes were coated with medication, tightly shut, the corners red, and tears trickled down.
Thalia stared at the tears at the corners of his eyes, her gaze wavering slightly.
She glanced down and noticed his hands clenched into fists on his thighs, so tightly that the veins on the backs of his hands stood out.
Thalia blinked, thinking she was seeing things, but when she looked again, his fists were still clenched.
Why is he clenching his fists?
Are his eyes hurting him that badly?’ she thought.
Out of nowhere, Thalia remembered what he’d said last night.
He said his eyes hurt, and I thought he was just acting pathetic.
But now, I realize I was totally wrong,’ she admitted to herself.
In that moment, Thalia felt a tight ache in her chest, emotions swirling and piling up inside her, threatening to burst out like a volcano.
She was overwhelmed with sadness.
The ache was so intense that her eyes burned and her throat tightened, tears nearly spilling over.
She blinked desperately, fighting to hold back the tears.
After the doctor finished changing Darion’s bandages, Thalia took out her phone and typed a message. The robotic female voice from her phone echoed in the room. “I’m going to step out for a bit.”
Darion responded, “Okay.”
Once Thalia’s footsteps finally faded into silence, Darion’s nerves loosened all at once, as if a weight had been lifted from

hum. He couldn’t help but gasp for air, his breathing rough and uncontrollable.

Even with his face hidden behind layers of bandages, the agony etched into his expression was impossible to miss.
Ryan stood nearby, visibly worried. “Mr. Blackburn, I’ve already contacted the best eye specialists in the world. They’ll arrive omorrow for a consultation, and I’m sure we’ll find a way to help you recover.”
Yeah. Darion responded. “Everyone… please leave.”
Alright.”
Ryan answered.
Darion added, “Keep watch at the door. If she comes back… let me know right away.”
Got it,” Ryan replied.
Once Ryan and the other bodyguards left, Darion slumped onto the bed, the pain in his eyes so fierce it felt like his skull was bout to split open.
Before anyone else left the room, Thalia slipped out quickly, even taking off her shoes so she wouldn’t make a sound.
Once she reached the corner, she put her shoes back on, but Darion’s ragged, painful breaths still echoed in her ears, and her heart felt like it was caught in the grip of an invisible hand.
She took a few deep breaths, then went to find his doctor.
Mrs. Blackburn, is there something you need?” the doctor asked, looking surprised and a bit puzzled.
Thalia lowered her head and typed, and the robotic voice said, “His eyes… they’re still hurting, right?”
The doctor nodded. “Yes. The poison is complicated and has burned his eyes badly. Eyes are very fragile, and until we come ip with a special antidote, Mr. Blackburn will keep feeling that pain. Regular painkillers just don’t work for him anymore.”
Thalia’s face turned even paler. She typed in a panic, “How long until you find the antidote?”
