“I only used a knockout drug on you guys. It won’t do any harm to you, I swear!” Natasha said.
She actually raised her hand as if taking an oath, her doe-like eyes blinking at Thalia.
Thalia nodded, then typed on her phone. The electronic voice chimed in, “As long as the misunderstanding’s cleared up. that’s good enough for me.”
Natasha grinned. “You’re so nice!”
But Dax Stone asked, “You hate the Holt family so much. What did they do to you?”
Natasha’s smile disappeared in a flash. Her hand balled into a fist, and her eyes rimmed with red.
“Victor Holt blew up my parents,” she said.
As soon as she finished, the basement was swallowed by silence.
Dax paused for a moment, then asked, “What are your parents’ names?”
He hesitated, then continued, “You already know our info, so we need yours too. Otherwise, how can we tell you’re not just a Holt family spy trying to gain our trust?”
Natasha bit her lip and said, “I’ll give you all my info. Feel free to look into it.”
Then, as if something just occurred to her, she asked, “By the way, how did you guys find out about me?”
Jason spoke up. “Through a woman named Helen Blackburn.”
“Oh, Helen!” Natasha’s eyes sparkled. “We were teammates in the international rescue squad. Later, she and Mr. Darion joined another team, and I returned to South City. We still talk every now and then!”
As she spoke, she pulled out her phone and quickly found a photo of her and Helen together. It was taken when they were on the rescue team.
The surroundings looked pretty rough, but they were both in white coats, smiling despite the tough conditions.
Dax examined the photo carefully, then nodded. “Alright, understood.”
Natasha said, “Let’s head out. We can take our time packing up.”
The group walked out of the basement.
The middle-aged woman from earlier was busy in the living room. When she saw Natasha come out with everyone, she asked, “Natasha, did you get the wrong people?”
Natasha stuck out her tongue playfully. “Yeah, good thing I didn’t actually do anything to them. Otherwise, I’d be in real
trouble.”
Jason rolled his eyes. “Seriously, what else did you want to do to us? First you knock us out, then you tie us up. You’re really breaking all the rules!”
Natasha glanced at him, feeling guilty, and kept quiet.
Mrs. Blair smiled and said, “Sorry, young man. She was just a bit panicked. She thought you were here to hurt her, so she was

only trying to protect herself. Please don’t take it to heart.”
Jason’s expression stiffened for a moment, then he said. “Mrs. Blair. I was just joking. I’m not blaming her
Mrs. Blair nodded. That’s good. I can tell you’re not bad kids. Are you here because you’re not feeling well and want Natasha to take a look?”
Jason nodded. “Yeah.”
“Alright, have a seat. I’ll go make some food. You guys can chat for a bit, and stay for dinner tonight, Mrs. Blair said. She could tell Natasha was treating these folks differently, so she just decided on her own to keep them for dinner.
Natasha said. “Sit down and walk me through what really happened.”
Everyone took a seat, and Dax started explaining how Thalia and Darion ended up getting poisoned.
Natasha took Thalia’s hand and started taking her pulse. She wasn’t all stiff and formal about it. She chatted with Thalia as she worked, and Thalia just nodded or shook her head in reply.
After a bit, Natasha let go and said. “Let’s detox first and see how it works.”
