Chapter 779 It’s On Fire!
The maid was speechless. She couldn’t understand why Wendy was still so unsatisfied when Mr. Clark spoiled her rotten and gave her the best of everything.
‘She’s always going against him and even insists on doing such dirty work. Maybe she’ s just not cut out for the good life, the maid thought.
She grumbled to herself but kept her face respectful. Then she turned and left the pet room, deciding to wash her hands of the whole thing.
After scooping Mimi’s litter box, Wendy washed her hands, topped off Mimi’s water and food, then cuddled her close to trim her nails. Mimi was such a little angel. She didn’t fuss at all and just purred contentedly in Wendy’s arms.
Wendy couldn’t help but smile as she gently stroked Mimi’s soft fur, feeling like maybe, just maybe, life had something worth looking forward to again.
After breakfast, Wendy stepped out of the castle and wandered around the garden. Her eyes kept drifting back to that little grove.
‘What kind of secret is hidden in there?’ Wendy wondered.
She tried to head that way again, but this time, a few bodyguards blocked her path.
One of them said, “Sorry, Ms. Adkins, but you can’t go in there. Mr. Clark gave strict orders. If you insist, we’ll have to lock you in your room.”
Wendy’s face fell at those words.
‘Just as I thought, there’s definitely a secret.
‘And it’s a secret they’re desperate to keep from me.
‘Why else would they be so paranoid?’ Wendy mused.
Wendy stared at the grove in the distance, her curiosity practically boiling over. ‘I have to find out what’s in there. Guess I’ll have to create a little distraction, she decided.
Wendy didn’t try to force her way through. Instead, she turned and walked away, and the bodyguards visibly relaxed.
They wouldn’t dare lay a finger on Mr. Clark’s woman.
Touch her, and they’re as good as dead.
They were just bluffing, but at least it worked. She left.
Back inside the castle, Wendy was playing with Mimi in her arms, all the while plotting how she could get into that grove.
She happened to glance at the fireplace, and her eyes instantly lit up with an idea.
As night slowly settled over the island, the sprawling castle glowed brightly, bathed in

warm light. It looked like something out of a fairy tale, elegant and enchanting, as if magic lingered in the air.
Wendy locked the door, grabbed anything flammable she could find, curtains, sheets, blankets, clothes, and piled them all together. Then she flicked her lighter and set it all on fire.
The flames started to grow, quickly spreading across the flammable carpet. Wendy stood a few steps back, watching it all with her eyes glinting in strange excitement.
She threw on the maid’s uniform she’d stashed away, messed up her hair, and crouched in a corner to hide.
The fire kept spreading, and soon the smoke alarm went off, its shrill, piercing sound echoing through the whole castle.
It didn’t take long for people to notice the blaze. They rushed over to put it out, only to find the door was locked.
