I Loved You in the Dark Until Someone Loved Me in the Light novel Chapter 46

Glancing at the time, she realized it was already seven-thirty. Her clinic shift started at nine. If she slept any longer, she wouldn't have time for breakfast.

After freshening up, she heard noises coming from the kitchen and assumed it was Susan.

To her utter shock, it was York.

The man was dressed in casual loungewear, giving off a coldly laid-back vibe. With an apron tied around his waist, he was actually cooking.

This was the very first time she had ever seen York in a kitchen. It was entirely unprecedented.

The man turned around and caught Gillian's stunned expression.

"Never seen me before?" York asked, his deep voice carrying a husky morning roughness. "Staring at me like that, do you finally realize how handsome your husband is?"

Gillian had assumed York would be furious with her for exposing Hailey. After all, they had parted on terrible terms the day before, and she had been actively avoiding him whenever she visited Hailey's room.

Yet here he was, making breakfast in their home.

"Care to join me?" York’s tone was cool and devoid of emotion.

Gillian couldn't help but glance at the spread on the counter. A bowl of spicy chicken noodle soup, an exquisite fruit platter, and mini omelets. Her palate had shifted towards lighter flavors since her pregnancy, and she often lacked an appetite, but these refreshing dishes genuinely tempted her. By some wild coincidence, they perfectly suited her current cravings, almost as if he had read her mind. Could it be...

Instantly, Gillian shook her head. She had forgotten that Hailey was also pregnant, meaning their cravings were likely identical.

Her suspicion was immediately confirmed when she noticed the takeout containers stacked by the stove. The realization hit her like a ton of bricks—he was up bright and early cooking purely for Hailey.

It was obvious how much care he had poured into this meal. He was meticulous and gentle. A truly good man could conquer the boardroom and the kitchen. For Hailey, he was willing to do absolutely anything.

So York wasn't inherently cold or incapable of caring for someone; his heart simply didn't belong to her.

She retracted her gaze, offering a faint, dismissive smile. "I'm not worthy of the honor. Enjoy it yourself."

She grabbed a glass and took a sip of water, only to realize that York was holding a matching glass as he packed the food.

They were matching couple's mugs. Hers had been used so much the pattern was nearly fading, while York’s looked practically brand new.
