"So, I owe you a favor now?" Gillian raised an eyebrow, a gentle, playful smile reaching her eyes.

"I wouldn't call it a favor. It falls within my scope of duties. Dr. Langdon is excellent, and she deserves a platform to advance her career."

"But what about you? Skipping breakfast again? You know your health..."

"Gillian, I came to get my discharge papers so I can pay the bill." Before Miles could finish, Hailey burst into the room, interrupting him. "Oh, Vice President Stanton is here too? You guys are so sweet. That food looks amazing! Where did you buy it?"

"My private chef made it." Miles smiled politely, glancing at York who had walked in right behind her. "You can't buy it outside."

"I see..." Hailey turned to York. "Well, I still think York’s cooking is the best."

York looked at her with utter fondness. "If you like it, I'll cook for you every day."

Suddenly, the delicious food in Gillian’s mouth tasted like ash. She had been enjoying a perfectly nice meal, and these two had to show up and ruin her appetite.

She pushed her food aside and began typing up Hailey's discharge papers.

York frowned deeply.

Gillian’s slender wrists moved nimbly as she efficiently operated the computer and printer.

Yet, her frailness was becoming increasingly prominent.

Susan had been back for days, but Gillian hadn't gained a single pound.

His mother treated Gillian like her absolute favorite person in the world, constantly nagging and scolding him whenever she saw Gillian looking this gaunt, accusing him of negligence.

He had hired someone to manage her meals, but what was Gillian doing?

She treated everything at home with pure disdain, yet the moment this Miles Stanton brought her food, she was practically glowing with joy! Was she terrified people might not realize how close they were?

After handing the discharge records to Hailey, Gillian met York’s freezing glare. It felt like standing in an icebox.

He was probably furious again that she was eating Miles's food while still legally married to him.

But so what? She was just eating a normal meal. She hadn't done anything inappropriate.

"Vice President Stanton is certainly highly invested in his staff," York remarked. "As a board member of this hospital, I suggest you focus your energy on official business."
