I Loved You in the Dark Until Someone Loved Me in the Light novel Chapter 49

This man was truly—

Until the divorce was finalized, he absolutely refused to let anyone make a fool out of him.

Miles's expression didn't shift in the slightest, though a faint ripple moved through his usually serene eyes.

"Is that so?" Miles said mildly. "Then Director Jordan’s husband must be quite useless."

"He didn't pick her up in the pouring rain after the alumni event. When her blood sugar dropped and she nearly passed out, her husband didn't bother to call. She's been skipping meals and growing thinner by the day, yet her husband shows zero concern."

"When her critically ill mother went missing at the hospital, she rushed over in a panic and nearly got into a car crash, yet her husband was nowhere to be found." Miles smiled as he spoke, his tone light and calm. "Mr. Foster, wouldn't you agree that a husband like that is completely unreliable?"

York's face shifted slightly. His dark pupils turned pitch-black, swirling with an emotion so deep it was impossible to read, radiating an icy chill.

Gillian didn't look at York’s face, but she could guess it was a terrifying sight.

Yet, Miles was absolutely right. He wasn't a good husband to her. But could she honestly say York was a bad person? To Hailey, he was the perfect boyfriend—responsible, protective, and endlessly devoted.

"Director Jordan, please don't take offense. I've never met your husband, but judging by his actions, I simply don't believe he's a suitable partner." Miles turned to Gillian, his eyes warm and apologetic. "If I've misunderstood the situation, I apologize."

"You haven't," Gillian replied. "There is no love between us. We're already getting a divorce."

Miles cast a thoughtful glance at York. "It seems this husband truly is a failure to not cherish a woman as wonderful as Director Jordan. Mr. Foster, as men, we really ought to shoulder our responsibilities."

"But seeing how deeply Mr. Foster cherishes Dr. Sinclair, I have no doubt you are a responsible, devoted man."

"York, what are you guys talking about? I paid the hospital bill," Hailey called out as she walked over, handing the bank card back to York.

York glanced at the card and said, "Keep it. Buy whatever you want."

"That's not appropriate—" Hailey looked stunned, seemingly completely caught off guard that York would actually give her full access to his finances.

"You're my girlfriend. If I don't spend the money I earn on you, who else would I spend it on?" York looked at Hailey with absolute tenderness. "Let's go. Didn't we agree to have dinner with your parents tonight? Come help me pick out some gifts for them."

Hailey’s face flushed a deep pink. "You really don't have to buy anything. My family has plenty."
