I Loved You in the Dark Until Someone Loved Me in the Light novel Chapter 51

Mrs. Jordan seemed unable to accept it, slipping into a delirious state of incoherent rambling.

Gillian Jordan spent a long time soothing her, finally leaving the hospital around ten that night.

Stepping outside, she was met with another heavy downpour.

The fine, dense rain carried a biting chill that seemed to seep into her very soul.

Staring out at the relentless storm, Gillian felt an ache in her chest. She waited ten minutes on the ride-hailing app, only to see there were no available cars.

Miles Stanton had left long ago, and she couldn't possibly expect him to chauffeur her around indefinitely.

Emotions always surfaced in the dead of night, leaving nowhere to hide. The suffocating wave of despair in her heart only grew sharper.

A sudden, freezing gust of wind whipped the rain into her face. A wave of nausea hit Gillian, and she leaned against a pillar outside the hospital, dry-heaving multiple times. She hadn't eaten anything all night, throwing up until her face was deathly pale, managing only to retch up stomach acid.

Just then, a car pulled up in front of her.

Through the heavy rain, the passenger window rolled down. Hailey Sinclair sat in the passenger seat. "Gillian, are you trying to get a ride? It looks pretty tough right now. Do you want York and me to give you a lift?"

In the driver's seat, York Foster didn't even spare her a glance. He stared emotionlessly at his phone, seemingly dealing with work messages. His unwelcoming expression was obvious.

Hailey's parents were sitting in the backseat.

Gillian had no desire to watch them put on a loving display; she figured that would only make her want to throw up even more.

She waved them off. "Thanks, but I'm waiting for someone."

The woman's voice was incredibly weak. In the frigid night wind, her fragile frame looked as if it could collapse at any moment.

"Oh?" Hailey smiled slightly. "I thought you were waiting for a car. We'll head out first, then."

The moment the words left her mouth, the car sped off. Gillian could only catch Hailey's muffled voice, "York, I didn't even get a chance to roll up the window—"

A mocking smile tugged at Gillian's lips. He was probably terrified she would shamelessly demand a ride.

Standing out in the cold for so long gave her a splitting headache.
