“It was only a matter of time before Hailey found out you were married. Secrets never stay buried. Are you really going to pin this on me?”
At the banquet, Hailey had loudly branded her as Miles's mistress, yet York hadn't uttered a single word in her defense.
“Isn't this exactly what you wanted to see?” York mocked, his lips curling into a cruel sneer. “You must be thrilled.”
Gillian found the accusation laughable. She walked up to him and met his predatory gaze. “Why would I be thrilled?”
She had never planned to expose his marriage. Even as a closely guarded secret, someone was bound to find out eventually. Why would she bother playing the villain?
“York, the only time I'll be thrilled is the day you agree to divorce me.”
York's eyes turned arctic.
Gillian smiled faintly. “Shouldn't you be out comforting your little girlfriend? Did you come all the way here in the middle of the night just to argue about this?”
“Are you that obsessed with our relationship? Hailey isn't like you. she's reasonable, and she's already forgiven me,” York retorted. “Unlike you, clinging to the title of Mrs. Foster while constantly demanding a divorce.”
Gillian laughed out of sheer frustration.
This asshole.
She couldn't care less about the Mrs. Foster title anymore.
Refusing to waste another breath on him, she turned toward the stairs.
“Did you quit drinking? I remember you used to be quite the alcoholic.”
Gillian's heart skipped a beat, but she kept her expression blank. “That's none of your business.”
She had never been an alcoholic. She had only forced herself to drink while acting as his meat shield during corporate dinners. The fact that he genuinely thought she enjoyed it was a bitter irony.
Without missing a step, she continued up the stairs.
“Imported prenatal vitamins. They're nearly impossible to get. You bought these?”
Gillian's blood ran cold. She spun around to see York staring at the medication on the coffee table.
