I Stopped Loving Him When He Let Me Bleed Out novel Chapter 225

Ford's smile froze on his face.

His hands clenched into tight fists at his sides.

Yet, he didn't dare show a hint of displeasure.

In the past, the Fletcher and Hayes families had been on equal footing. But ever since his mother's downfall, the Fletcher family's status had plummeted.

They now had to rely heavily on the Hayes family's influence.

Because of this, Ford couldn't afford to display any resentment.

Felicia stood beside him, neither looking at her husband nor speaking up to defend him.

Her expression remained effortlessly calm.

"You're joking, Silas," Ford managed to say.

Maya sat on Silas's lap, kicking her little legs back and forth while her bright eyes darted between Ford and Silas.

Silas cast a cold glance at Ford. "Your family is drowning in scandals right now. If I had known, I never would have agreed to this marriage."

Ford's facade completely crumbled.

He opened his mouth several times, but couldn't force a single word out.

Silas leaned back in his leather chair. "That subsidiary investigation of yours—still unresolved? And the mess with your mother—still making headlines?" He stared at Ford, his gaze stripped of any warmth. "Where do you get the nerve to stand in my office and promise you can take care of Felicia?"

Ford's face turned a humiliating shade of red.

He wanted to argue, but he knew every word Silas spoke was the undeniable truth.

He was defenseless, standing there feeling as exposed as if he'd been stripped naked in public.

"Enough. Go deal with your family's mess," Silas commanded, dropping his gaze back to his paperwork. "Felicia stays."

Ford lowered his eyes, masking his venomous hatred.

When he looked up again, he shot a glance at Felicia.

Felicia maintained her serene composure. "Ford, you should head back first."

Ford forced a stiff, unnatural smile. "I'll head back now, Silas."

Nobody acknowledged him.

He turned on his heel and pulled the door open to leave.

In that moment, he desperately wanted to slam the door off its hinges, but he didn't have the guts.

The office fell silent.
