Sienna didn't say a word, though a lump formed in her throat.
Before today, she never would have imagined that the immature brother from her memories was capable of saying something so profound.
She had always assumed that, growing up under the influence and teachings of a mother like Lydia, Noah was destined to become a parasitic drain on her life.
Because of that, she had never dared to hold any expectations for him.
Today, Noah had surprised her.
Sienna looked down and changed the designated driver information on the rental app to Noah's name.
She handed him the phone.
"Drive safely."
Noah took the phone and glanced at the navigation route.
"You got it. Don't worry, Sienna."
Sienna got up to pack her things, her head still spinning slightly.
Right then, Lydia walked into the room.
"What are you two doing?"
Sienna looked at her.
"There's an emergency. I need to head back to Metropolis immediately. Dad's condition is stable now, so you can just handle his discharge paperwork tomorrow."
Lydia rushed over to her son, her tone softening considerably.
"Noah, what do you think you're doing?"
"I'm driving my sister back."
"Absolutely not! That's way too dangerous. Sienna, just drive yourself! Why do you have to drag your brother into this?"
Sienna felt lightheaded and completely drained, lacking the energy to exchange another word with Lydia. She zipped her backpack and walked straight out the door.
"You ungrateful girl! Always so full of demands! Who do you think you're giving attitude to?!" Lydia raged, chasing after her to yell down the hall.
Noah grabbed her arm to stop her.
"Mom! Can you stop picking on her? Think about it—Dad's situation, my situation—which one of those didn't rely completely on Sienna to fix? If it weren't for her, our whole family would be screwed! She poured out her money and her energy, and now she's sick and still getting screamed at by you. Could you stop being so incredibly biased?"
Lydia's eyes went wide, but she didn't dare say a harsh word to her precious son.
"No, Noah, what kind of spell did she cast on you? Mom is just worried about you! Why don't you understand that?"
"Alright, I'm done talking about this. I need to catch up with my sister. Call me if there's an emergency."
"Hey! Wait! Noah? Son!"
