Noah looked at her, belatedly realizing something was terribly wrong.
His lips parted slightly.
"Sienna, that guy... you don't think it's..."
Sienna's mind exploded into chaos.
A Bentley. Metropolis plates. A young man.
Wasn't that exactly... Finn?
Sienna's hands trembled violently as an icy chill swept through her body.
She could hear her own voice shaking.
"Impossible. It absolutely cannot be him."
Even as the words left her mouth, she was already throwing the car door open.
The predawn wind on the highway was brutal.
Ahead, the sea of taillights merged into a continuous red line with no end in sight.
After hours of gridlock in the dead of night, the traffic finally began to inch forward.
Noah scrambled out of the car and grabbed her arm.
"Sienna, the cars are moving! It's way too dangerous for you to be walking on the highway!"
"It's clearing up! We're moving!" someone shouted.
The cars behind them started honking.
One honk, then two, until a restless chorus of horns shattered the quiet night.
"What's the holdup? Are you moving or what?"
"Hurry up, don't waste our time!"
Sienna stared blankly ahead. In truth, she couldn't see anything, but an overwhelming compulsion drove her to look.
She just needed to confirm it.
Noah practically shoved her into the backseat of the rental.
"Sorry! Sorry about that, moving now!" Noah waved apologetically at the impatient drivers behind them.
The doors slammed shut, and the car jerked forward.
Sienna rested her head against the window, staring blankly into the darkness. Whether it was the lingering fever or pure shock, she was entirely drained of strength. Her heart hammered erratically against her ribs, and her legs felt like jelly.
Without warning, they passed a dark pool on the asphalt.
Deep crimson, reflecting ominously under the passing headlights.
Her heart violently contracted.
Was that Finn's blood?
Noah cast a worried glance at her through the rearview mirror.
"Sienna, it might not be him. Don't scare yourself like this."
