Sienna rubbed her temples, desperately trying to process Lily's wild confession.
Lily's eyes were practically sparkling.
"Bestie, seriously, it was amazing! I've never felt anything like it. Do you know what I mean?"
"Know what?" Sienna's brain was short-circuiting.
Lily counted on her fingers.
"I dated three guys in college, and none of them were any good. I thought all those toe-curling sensations were just exaggerated romance movie tropes. But last night, I finally realized that intimacy can actually be that incredible!"
Sienna felt the conversation veering into dangerous territory.
"Stop right there!"
She focused on the most critical point.
"What did he say about it?"
Lily pointed at the box of pills on the desk.
"He spent the entire morning apologizing. He said he was sorry, that he would take responsibility. He didn't use protection last night and was terrified of causing me trouble, so he bought these and told me to remember to take them. I can't even talk to him right now. It's just apology after apology. Seriously, what is there to be sorry about? It's perfectly natural."
Sienna took two deep breaths to steady herself.
"Isaac is a doctor too. He knows the importance of playing it safe. If you aren't ready for a baby, you should take the pill. It's a way to protect yourself so you don't end up..."
"Sienna, you and Finn slept together, right? How was it? You never talked about it."
Sienna shot up from her chair, her face burning.
"Lily, my shift is starting. Get out. Don't distract me from my work."
A sly grin spread across Lily's face.
"You're getting so defensive. Does that mean Finn is terrible in bed? He looks so big and dominant, but he's actually a flop?"
"Shut up and goodbye," Sienna muttered, shoving Lily toward the door, making sure to toss the pharmacy bag into her hands.
Once Lily was gone, silence fell over the office.
But Sienna's cheeks were still searing hot.
She leaned against the door, squeezing her eyes shut.
Her and Finn—it had been the first time for both of them.
From their initial fumbling and panic, to eventually finding their rhythm, they had both harbored an intense, burning desire to explore each other.
She thought she had buried those breathless, intoxicating nights, but the memories crashed over her like a broken dam.
