Karma Doesn’t Sleep The Revenge Queen Rises novel Chapter 694

When Amelia hung up and turned around, she found Ryan sprawled on the sofa, looking half-awake and completely relaxed. His sleepy eyes were locked on her like he’d been waiting.

For some reason, he suddenly reminded her of a cat.

She couldn’t help laughing as she made her way over. She hadn’t even gotten close before he grew impatient, reached out, and yanked her right into his arms.

The only light in the living room was a floor lamp by the wall, mixing with the cool bluish glow from the TV. The shadows made Ryan’s face look softer than usual, almost peaceful.

“Who were you talking to?” His voice was low and rough, still heavy with sleep.

“Tavon. He said a car will pick me up at eight tomorrow morning.” Amelia answered honestly, cupping Ryan’s face with both hands. “You need to stay home and wait for me, okay? And don’t forget to take your meds, every single day, on time. Take care of yourself for me.”

He looked down at her, blinking slowly, a lazy smile tugging at his lips. “Anything else?”

Amelia put on her best stern face. “Don’t even think about pushing me away again. And if you ever try anything like what happened with Zoe, I’m warning you—I’ll actually get mad. And I don’t think you want to see that.”

Ryan just closed his eyes, smiling even wider. “Alright.”

He pulled her in tighter, and the sofa was big enough for the two of them to stretch out together. Amelia relaxed against him, breathing in his clean scent, feeling her heart settle in her chest.

Sleep crept up on her, slow and warm.

“Ryan?”

“Yeah?”

“I’m coming back for New Year’s. I’ll be home in time, and I’ll cook the New Year’s Eve dinner. You’ll finally get to taste my cooking.”

Ryan’s smile was soft and gentle. “Looking forward to it.”

Amelia snuggled closer, reaching for his hand and threading her fingers through his.

“Ryan, I really like you. Like, a lot. When I went to the temple that day, I made a deal with the gods. They promised me you’d be healthy and live a long life.”

She’d always thought of herself as practical and logical, well aware that fate was out of her hands and that life was full of things people just had to face.

But when it came to Ryan, she couldn’t help but hope—just this once—that there really was someone up there looking out for him.

What she didn’t see was Ryan, eyes opening slowly, a tidal wave of sorrow and happiness crashing over him all at once. For a moment, he couldn’t even speak. When he finally did, his voice was calm and steady. “I will.”

Winter mornings were slow to arrive. Amelia woke up before her alarm, the world outside still dark.

Ryan was still sound asleep. She slipped out of his arms as quietly as she could.

She paused, looking at him—his face so peaceful and handsome in sleep—and her expression softened. Leaning down, she kissed his eyelid with the lightest touch. “Wait for me,” she whispered.

This life had already given him more than he ever expected.

But the pain came back even sharper, like a thousand barbed needles digging into his skin. Cold sweat broke out on his forehead. He rolled onto his side, propped himself up, and spat blood onto the floor.

The front door slammed open with a bang.

Francisco, Dr. Wilson, and Zoe rushed in.

Francisco and Dr. Wilson sprinted straight to him. Zoe froze, her whole body going cold at the sight.

She walked over, stiff and slow, and saw Ryan—blood everywhere, on his face, his clothes.

This wasn’t the Ryan she knew. He looked like a stranger.

Dr. Wilson got down next to him, checking him over with his brows furrowed tight. “He’s out of his mind. I told him he could only take the medicine as prescribed. Never more than triple the dose…”

Francisco’s face was pale. “Dr. Wilson, Mr. Packman’s condition is even worse than you thought. Three times the dose couldn’t even dull the pain. He needed to keep going until everything was settled…”

Dr. Wilson took a deep breath, pulled out a vial, and injected it into the vein in Ryan’s neck.

“Get him to the hospital,” he said, voice tense. “Once his vitals are stable, we operate—no delays.”
