Amelia looked up at Andrew but didn’t make a move to take the file he was holding.
Her eyes were distant and deep, so unreadable it made Andrew—who’d met all kinds of people—feel a flicker of nerves.
“Ms. Sadinton…” he started.
Amelia cut him off. “What was Ryan to me?”
Andrew froze. “…Sorry?”
She stepped closer, her voice steady but sharp. “I said, who was Ryan to me? What gave him the right to make decisions about my life? Set up a fund for my child? Who gave him that right?” Her eyes were red by now, burning into him as if she could force a confession from his soul.
Andrew’s years in the business told him clearly—this anger wasn’t really for him. If Amelia could dig a hole right through him, it would only be to check if Ryan was hiding inside.
“Ms. Sadinton, I understand this is difficult. Everything I brought, all of this, it’s from Mr. Packman. I’m just carrying out his instructions,” Andrew said carefully. “Please, don’t take it out on me.”
Amelia wiped the tears from her eyes, trying to keep her voice even. “That won’t be necessary.” She drew a long breath. “I don’t want any of it.”
Andrew nodded. This reaction didn’t surprise him. Amelia refusing now was exactly what he—and Ryan—had expected.
Ryan had seen this coming. Andrew was only here because it was required.
“I understand,” he said. “According to Mr. Packman's will, his assets will be managed by a team of top professionals until you decide to accept them. The earnings will still go to you. Whenever you’re ready, it’s all yours.”
Amelia dug her nails into her palm, biting back a bitter laugh. Even in death, Ryan hadn't given her a chance to say no.
Anthony, watching his daughter’s pain, stepped forward. “Andrew, my daughter needs to rest. Please leave for now.”
Andrew nodded politely, his eyes lingering on Anthony’s face for a moment longer. The resemblance between father and daughter was unmistakable.
After Andrew left, Amelia slowly sank down, covering her face with her hands.
Anthony’s heart ached as he moved closer to comfort her. There was so much he wanted to say, but in the end, he just sighed and sat silently beside her.
