Amelia's expression was placid. "Alright. Let's go right now. I remember everything about that day perfectly."
Hearing this, Clive's heart sank. He knew that, this time, Amelia was never going to forgive Caroline.
"Amelia—" Clive started to step forward, but Felix, whose patience had long run dry, pulled Amelia behind him. Felix blocked Clive's path, his brow furrowed with cold hostility.
"Is there anything else?" Felix's tone was icy. Outside, his security detail subtly rested their hands on their holstered weapons.
Penny, who had been listening to music and doing her homework, sensed the shifting mood. The music stopped, and she trotted over, looking a little timid.
"Uncle Felix, please don't fight with Daddy, okay?"
The sudden intrusion of this little girl between the two combative men, combined with her sweet, frightened demeanor, instantly dissolved most of the hostility in the room.
Felix forced a relatively gentle smile for the little girl.
"Uncle Felix isn't fighting with your daddy. We're just talking."
Clive bent down and scooped Penny into his arms. His gaze bypassed Felix, landing on Amelia standing behind him.
Just as Amelia thought Clive was going to use their children as a bargaining chip again to make her spare Caroline, she heard him speak.
"Amelia, I'm not here to emotionally blackmail you. I know Caroline went too far this time," Clive said, a self-deprecating smile touching his lips. "Actually, you were right before. She's not a child anymore. She should have learned to take responsibility for her actions a long time ago. We've spoiled her over the years. Whatever you decide to do—if you let her off, I'll drag her here to get on her knees and beg for your forgiveness. If you don't, then she brought it upon herself."
Amelia was slightly stunned. She hadn't expected Clive to actually change his tune.
Clive didn't expect a response. He simply turned to his daughter. "Penny, say goodbye to Mommy."
Penny looked at Amelia reluctantly. "Daddy, I haven't slept next to Mommy in so long... Can't I stay?"
Hearing this, Amelia's nose stung, and tears threatened to fall.
"No, sweetheart," Clive said gently. "Mommy isn't feeling well right now. She needs to rest for a few days. Once she's feeling better, you can come keep her company, okay?"
Penny nodded obediently. She reached out her arms to Amelia for a hug, and naturally, Amelia couldn't refuse her daughter.
