The maid standing nearby looked on with pity but didn't dare intervene.
Liana bit her lip, looking incredibly delicate and pathetic.
"Ms. Salmeron, please don't be angry. I just wanted to check on you..." Her gaze drifted to the angry red rash on Caroline's neck, and a barely perceptible smirk touched the corners of her mouth. "I wanted to see if the medicine you've been taking... has made you feel any better."
Hearing this, Caroline froze.
"That medicine... Clive didn't send it. You did?!"
So that was why she had broken out in hives...
The truth hit Caroline like a freight train. Enraged, she lunged forward and grabbed Liana by the collar. "You bitch! What did you put in my medicine?! You poisoned me on purpose, didn't you?!"
Liana looked utterly helpless. "I didn't..."
Caroline wasn't listening. She hauled back and slapped Liana hard enough to send her crashing to the floor!
The maid jumped in terror. She tried to speak up, "Ms. Salmeron, please, calm down—"
"Shut up! A lowly servant thinks she can tell me what to do?!" Caroline was completely blinded by fury. She grabbed a heavy decorative vase from the console table and hurled it at Liana. Terrified, Liana scrambled up and fled down the hallway in a panic.
Caroline watched with malicious glee as the stupid woman ran straight into the bathroom and locked the door behind her. She laughed, a harsh, vicious sound. "Idiot! I'm already in a terrible mood today, and you just delivered yourself on a silver platter to die!"
She barked at the maid, "Go get the spare key!"
Though the maid couldn't bear it, she didn't dare disobey. She hurried off to find the key, but while out of sight, she frantically texted Clive.
[Mr. Salmeron, please come quickly! Ms. Salmeron is going to beat Ms. Jenkins to death!]
What an incredibly satisfying idiot.
"You bitch!! If I couldn't kill Amelia, you think I can't finish you off?!" Caroline shrieked, raising a baseball bat she had grabbed from the hall and swinging it down at Liana. However, Liana suddenly shed her cowering demeanor. As Caroline lunged at her like a madwoman, Liana let out a cold laugh.
She caught the descending baseball bat with one hand. Try as she might, Caroline couldn't even yank it back.
"Ms. Salmeron—" Liana leaned in close, her smile predatory. "Did you know? I've been working to support myself since I was fourteen. I've done every dirty, exhausting job out there. I even worked as a sparring partner at an underground boxing gym..."
Her smirk turned glacial as she stared at Caroline like a hunter sizing up its prey.
"A spoiled, pampered little princess like you? I could crush you with one hand."
Before Caroline could even process the words, Liana slapped her across the face, sending her sprawling. Liana grabbed Caroline by her hair and shoved her head toward the water in the bathtub. As she forcefully held Caroline down, Liana screamed toward the closed door at the top of her lungs: "Help! Help! Ms. Salmeron, Ms. Salmeron, I'm sorry! Please stop hitting me!"
