All the joy of seeing the face he’d been longing for, even after days apart, vanished in an instant.
The elevator doors slid shut between them, cutting off the silent gaze they’d exchanged through the air.
Daniel clenched his jaw in frustration.
He had no one to blame but himself. After nearly a month of sleepless nights handling the Group’s most important international project of the year, he’d rushed to finish early—just so he could hurry back to see her.
And what did he get in return? Not the sweet thrill of reunion he’d imagined, but a cold, clipped “divorce papers.”
It felt like a soggy wad of cotton was stuffed in his chest, heavy and suffocating. The more he thought about it, the angrier he got. He slid into the car and made a call.
Grace Stewart Campbell was in the middle of her nightly skincare routine, a cooling mask on her face. She answered without checking the caller ID. When she heard Daniel’s voice, her tone turned playful and sarcastic, “Well, well, my precious son actually remembers his mother exists. You must have dialed the wrong number. Shouldn’t you be calling your wife at this hour, not your dear old mom?”
Daniel ignored the jab. “Is Sandra Stewart still in Zephyr for her medical fellowship?”
Grace was caught off guard by the question. “Why are you asking about her?”
He didn’t waste time explaining. “Tell your cousin, if she’s studying abroad, she should focus on learning something useful and not hurry back. If she’s lonely, send someone over to keep her company. She’s still single, right? Tell her to take advantage of it.”
Grace was utterly baffled. Before she could ask for clarification, Daniel had already hung up.
Sandra was training in medicine at Zephyr, and with the state of things over there, she’d be lucky to graduate on time, let alone come home early. And “send someone over”? What did he think she was, a parcel you could just ship off? That boy must have lost his mind chasing after his wife.
…
“Training at Zephyr?”
Charles had barely stepped through the door when his father summoned him to the study to discuss the matter.
Fabian Johnson nodded. “It’s a great opportunity. The hospital just received an official spot, and the director told me right away. You’d be going for a three-month program at Crest Institute. The experience is worth far more than the time spent. It would do wonders for your career.”
Charles frowned, something about it felt off.
But the chance was real enough. Crest Institute was world-renowned in medicine—no downside to going, and three months wasn’t that long. There was no reason to refuse.

He turned back to his desk and spotted the court summons lying there. Whatever good mood he’d had evaporated instantly.
Amelia wasn’t joking. She was really going through with the divorce.
After all this chasing, all these circles, he was right back where he started.
His phone rang—it was Violet calling again.
She’d been calling nonstop these past few days. Daniel either ignored her or let his assistant answer and make excuses about being busy.
He silenced the call without a second thought. A few minutes later, Violet sent him a message:

I hope this couple gets back together and he is the donor for his daughter. Thank you for the new chapters....
How come in every novel I read on here the women don’t tell the men they are the father of their child? I find this ridiculous....
