Daniel frowned slightly as he read the message, then called Violet back.
“Are you sure Eunice didn’t mistake you for someone else?”
Violet’s voice was soft. “I don’t think so. She said my real name is Rose, and even my nickname is Rose. She knows a lot about the Scott family. I don’t remember any of it, but I just feel this strange sense of familiarity with her.”
“Where is Eunice?” Daniel asked. “I want to meet her.”
…
Violet arrived at the hospital first. She hadn’t told Eunice who was coming—only that it was someone very important.
Eunice took extra care, tidying herself up in the restroom and making sure every corner of the hospital room was spotless. If Ms. Rose said this guest was important, she couldn’t afford to be careless.
The door swung open. A pair of polished dress shoes stepped inside, and Eunice’s eyes widened at the sight of the tall, sharply dressed man. For a moment, she seemed to search her memory, disbelief flickering across her face as she finally spoke. “Are you… Mr. Campbell?”
More than a decade had passed, and faces might change, but some people’s innate dignity and presence never faded.
Daniel nodded. “It’s me.”
He recognized her almost instantly—the weary lines on her face couldn’t hide the woman he’d seen countless times before, always at Rose’s side.
Eunice’s eyes filled with tears as she looked from Daniel to Violet, realization dawning.
So it was the Campbell family who had been protecting Ms. Rose all this time. Without them, who knows what might have happened to her…
Eunice sank to her knees. “Mr. Campbell, thank you. On behalf of the Scott family, you have my deepest gratitude.”
Daniel quickly reached out to help her up. “There’s no need to kneel. The Scott family has always been blessed—they don’t deserve to have their line cut short.”

“Don’t worry about the medical bills. And take care of yourself—your son needs you. If you fall apart, so does his last hope.”
Eunice tried to refuse, tears welling up, but after much back-and-forth, Violet firmly pressed the card into her hands. “Eunice, you’ve taken care of me for so many years. You’re family to me. Please, let me do something for you.”
Outside the hospital building, Violet didn’t ask Daniel to see her off. She just looked up at him, hope shining in her eyes. “Daniel, is there anything you can do to help with Eunice’s son’s transplant?”
The sky, so blue when they’d arrived, had turned gray and heavy, threatening rain at any moment.
Daniel gazed at the clouds, silent.

The car pulled up to the hospital entrance. Daniel opened the door, and just before getting in, he left her with a few quiet words. “Tell Eunice not to worry.”

How come in every novel I read on here the women don’t tell the men they are the father of their child? I find this ridiculous....
