Violet stood at the curb, watching the car disappear down the street. As it grew smaller, the sadness on her face slowly melted into a look of smug satisfaction.
So, Amelia wanted to play games? Violet was more than happy to play along—slowly, methodically.
She knew Ruby was Amelia’s Achilles’ heel. With Ruby in her grasp, Amelia would never be able to outmaneuver her, no matter how hard she tried.
In the days that followed, Violet visited the hospital every day to sit with Eunice.
Thanks to Daniel’s financial help, Eunice no longer had to work odd jobs during the day. She devoted herself entirely to staying at her son’s bedside.
Her boy was remarkably mature for his age. Even lying in a hospital bed, he kept up with his reading and assignments. He clung to life with a quiet determination, desperate to recover and return to school.
Eunice had wiped away her tears countless times in secret. When faced with sickness, a person felt more helpless than an insect beneath a boot.
One evening, disaster struck. Without warning, Eunice’s son began to vomit uncontrollably and then slipped into unconsciousness. The doctors rushed him straight into the emergency room.
When Violet arrived at the ward and found nobody there, she hurried to the ER, where she saw Eunice on the verge of collapse.
A nurse emerged, holding a critical condition consent form, asking Eunice to sign it.
Eunice shook so badly that she could barely hold the pen. The thought that her son might leave her at any moment left her breathless with grief.
Violet gently took her hand and helped her sign the form.
Afterwards, Violet asked Eunice’s younger sister to look after her, then wheeled herself to the far end of the corridor to call Daniel and fill him in on what had happened.
Daniel arrived just in time to hear that a second critical notice had been issued.
With trembling fingers, Eunice signed her name. Then, unable to contain herself, she dropped to her knees in front of Daniel. “Mr. Campbell, I’m begging you—please, save my son!”

Daniel stopped in his tracks, his gaze suddenly cold and hard. “You want me to steal someone else’s chance at life?”
Violet faltered under the intensity of his stare. “Eunice’s son is running out of time. If he doesn’t get a transplant soon, he might not make it.”
Daniel’s eyes bored into hers. She looked so much like Amelia, but inside, she was nothing like her.
Amelia would never consider taking a donor organ meant for someone else.
“Eunice’s son’s life matters,” Daniel said quietly. “But so does the life of the person whose transplant you’d steal. If you take their liver, they might die instead.”

I hope this couple gets back together and he is the donor for his daughter. Thank you for the new chapters....
How come in every novel I read on here the women don’t tell the men they are the father of their child? I find this ridiculous....
