Chapter 190 Don’t Tell Laila

“Actually, I’ve always been interested in law. If there hadn’t been a war, I probably would’ve chosen that path,” Samuel said calmly.

But Laila was still frowning.

“What about your army?”

“I’ve handed it all over to His Majesty. I’m quite free now. So if you ever need help with anything, just let me know. I’ll always have time.”

The more casually he spoke, the more something felt wrong to Laila.

Samuel had just returned from the battlefield with great military achievements. How could he suddenly be reassigned to sit in a courtroom?

But before she could sort out her thoughts, Samuel stood and took his leave.

He didn’t dare stay any longer. Laila was too perceptive.

What could he possibly say? Should he tell her that to become her mate, he had to surrender command of his army?

That was something he absolutely couldn’t say. If she found out, she would never agree to marry him.

As for after the wedding? Once the marking was complete, some things could be explained slowly.

After Samuel left, Laila sat alone for a long time. Some things seemed to make sense, yet still didn’t feel completely clear.

Seeing her troubled expression, Martha hesitated before stepping forward, but Faulkner stopped her. He shook his head and led her outside.

Once they were far enough away that no one could overhear, Faulkner whispered, “I know you want to tell Ms. Conlay about that matter, but don’t say anything now. Wait until after the mating ceremony.”

Martha nodded. “I understand. I only felt sorry seeing Ms. Conlay so troubled and acted impulsively. I know I shouldn’t.”

She sighed. “I only learned today that His Highness gave up command of his army. Thinking about everything that happened before, I can guess the reason–he gave it up for Ms. Conlay. His Majesty used Ms. Conlay as bait to hook this big fish.”

Faulkner said, “Just keep that in your heart. Don’t go around saying it.”

“Of course. How could I possibly say something like that out loud? It’s just that Ms. Conlay doesn’t know His Highness’s feelings for her. Luna Diana even forbade us from telling her that His Highness came to visit back then.”
