Compared to everything Laila had endured over the past few years, what were a few rumors worth?
Her father and brothers had died in battle. Her mother and many of her packmates had been slaughtered. Though Margaret had no personal ties to Laila, just thinking about those events while looking at the strong, radiant young woman before her made her chest ache.
How difficult those days must have been for her.
Yet she hadn’t fallen into despair or cursed fate. Instead, she carried the honor of her family forward and continued fighting in place of her fallen father and brothers.
The spirit of the Conlays stood unbroken.
Margaret suddenly felt a twinge of regret. She regretted that she hadn’t interacted more with the Silvermoon Pack over the years. The younger generation of the Blackrock Pack should really see for themselves what true wolf blood looked like.
After a moment of silence, she suddenly took an exquisite necklace out of the gift box and held it out to Laila.
She even moved to place it around Laila’s neck.
The chain was finely woven, and the pendant was a pigeon–blood red ruby surrounded by five deep blue sapphires arranged in the shape of a wolf’s head. The ruby at the center shimmered brilliantly under the light.
But upon closer inspection, the five blue sapphires were hollow. Inside each one was a faint trace of red- though it was impossible to tell what it was.
“Laila,” Nita’s voice suddenly sounded in her mind, tinged with confusion. “There’s a familiar scent inside those stones, but it’s too faint. I can’t identify it.”
Laila froze slightly.
Looking down at the necklace, she suddenly felt her palm growing warm. She hadn’t even touched it yet, but something seemed to tug gently at her mind, making it difficult to look away.
Still, the necklace clearly wasn’t something that could be bought in an ordinary shop. It could rival the royal treasures.
She refused. “No. It’s far too valuable. I can’t accept it.”
“Laila.” Margaret clasped Laila’s hand, her expression solemn. “You must accept it. This necklace should never have belonged to me in the first place. It rightfully belongs to the Conlays.”
Laila was stunned. “Belongs to my family? Why would you say that?”

Margaret sighed softly. “It happened more than three years ago. It was the only time I ever interacted privately with your mother.”
Hearing that it involved her mother, Laila quickly invited Margaret to sit and tell the story in detail.
Margaret sat down and slowly began recounting what had happened back then.
